Thanks, food coupons would be great.

You can register up to the player's meeeting on tournament day. I
have not set entry fees yet. They should be $10-$15 for rec players,
$15-$20 for intermediate ams.

What time will the registration be as I hope to be able to play this tourney.  is it still 1:30 at the sportsplex.  Let me know.

there.

We will play 2 rounds of 10 holes at the Sportsplex or a round of 12
at ASU & a round of 10 at the 'plex, if the ASU course is in the
ground by then.

when will the registration begina and what will the entry fee be.  Also i am trying to get some help from a local radio station in athens as far as some free food coupons or something.  I will let you know more when i find something out.

Bill Bullington <bill_bullington@...> wrote:
We have got just over 3 months until our 2nd annual charity
tournament and it is time to start the planning. I would like for us
all to get together and talk about plans sometime early next month.
Last year when we started planning the tournament our still unnamed
club had 5 members and a total of 1 tournament played between us and
we managed to raise $550 for the Limestone County Boys & Girls Club.
This year the CPF roster is right at 20 members and we have seen many
ways to raise money at tournaments. Any suggestions will be
appreciated, here are some ideas we have come up with, just to start
you thinking.

We need to draw a big crowd. I am trying to get a commitment from the
city to get the new holes installed in time for the tournament. Also,
a nice players pack will draw players and make them want to come to
future events in Athens.

Players Packs - ANYTHING of value would be great for these. To try to
get players to commit early I would like to advertise packs for the
first 50 to sign up. So anything we get for these we will need to
have at least 50 of, if we have more than 50 golfers we can give
partial packs to if we have more than 50 of any item. I would like to
have a DX disc in each pack, Tom Wales is working on the artwork now.
These discs will cost us $5 per disc. I once again will ask the
Huntsville Havoc for tickets, they gave us 100 tickets last year. We
should also include a raffle ticket in each pack. Coupons for free
food from McDonalds or Ckhick Fil-A are often in players packs. If
you know anyone that can give you 50 of anything players might want
please do so. I would like to make a nice pack so everyone feels they
are getting something for their entry fee.

Sponsers - "Money makes the world go 'round, world go 'round, world
go 'round" that is what one of my economics professor said daily and
it is very true here. Hole sponsorships can be sold for $25 per hole.
This will be the key to getting the discs for the players packs paid
for. Please consider sponsoring a hole alone or with a group of your
friends, or better yet sell them to businesses or non players.

Free Lunch - I have often heard "There is no free lunch", that
applies here. I have a couple of friends who work with the B&G Club
and they have told me that they would provide lunch for the players
at the tournament. We will accept donations to the club for
this "free lunch". I am thinking about reserving the large classroom
at Central Church for us to eat in.

Silent Auction - If you have anything that people want, disc golf
related or not, we can include in this. My friends my the B&G Club
told me that they can get some sports memorabilia form a banquet they
are hosting near the same time as our tournament. I think it would be
mostly Alabama and Auburn Football items, I will try to get a list of
items in time to advertise them and maybe draw non disc golfers to
the auction as well.

Raffle - Items not included in the auction can be put in this
catagory. I want to give everyone a ticket in there players pack,
plus sell tickets for $2 each or 3 for $5. Discs are a very popular
raffle item.

Mulligans - I wa amazed by how much money we raised by selling
mulligans last year. We limited players to 5 per round and sold them
for $2 for a tee shot and all others for $4.

That should be enough info to get you thinking about ways to raise
money and promote disc golf. I will be in touch with you about a
meeting to discuss these and other plans.

If so, you might want to help the Chain Gang at the same time. Here
is an e-mail from Addie.

Attention:

If you are thinking of joining the PDGA or renewing your membership
soon, please hold off for a few days!!

We are wanting to become an Affiliated Club with the PDGA and to do
so we must send in our memberships/renewals as a club. This will give
us many added bonuses throughout the year, including a link to our
website on the PDGA forum which is viewed all over the world. David
Hunt has hired someone to professionally design our
rocketcitychaingang.com site!! The davidhunt.org site is our
temporary site-- Continue using this site as the other isn't
completed.

I will be getting more information on becoming an Affiliated Club in
the next few days.

If anyone has any questions about the PDGA please don't hestitate to
ask!!

Thank you,
Addie

I posted this review on Huntsvilles message board, and thought you
guys would like to know about the new RoadRunner:

Champion Road Runner:

At first glance it looks and feels like a Sidewinder. The very first
throw I
realized it was a slightly worked in Sidewinder. If you have a
tailwind or
no wind this disc will cook! With just a a slight hyzer angle the
disc at
high speed will pan up fairly quick and a have a gentle rollover, but
at the
end of the flight it will land flat. This is a great disc for novice
to pro!
Most pro's will probably use it for rollers or very long turnovers or
low
ceiling long tunnel shots. All skill levels will enjoy the flight and
feel of
this new Innova disc.

Awww Boooooooo!!! Hisssssss!! I think the new o.b.s stink. Three now
has crazy kamikazee winds that magically waft my truant tie-dyed
Valkerye into the skipping hell of out of bounds then we all know
that you(Wild Bill) perfected your skip off the path shot secretly
and then made the o.b. fit its flight pattern, not to mention you
know Lee's fondness for the soccer field. Everyone its all a scheme
plotted by the "november criminals" and later we will get the "stab
in the back myth" about how the Athens State Boys are responsible
for our losses in WWI. Sorry got off track there anyway I guess I
like them it definitely makes my score higher as par is much
tougher. I see the "King of the Road" gave them his ok that means I
have to dislike em'. Cya on the course. Oh yeah "Hartselle
Heartthrob" dont think you snuck away without relinquishing your tag
to Lee and no one noticed. Tsk Tsk! "No Class Glass" tell us about
1 and 8 already
Later guys,
Rivers

I will be in touch with you about a
meeting to discuss these and other plans.

with the order and I will put it aside for you. Let me know if you
would like them signed also. I have already signed all the black/gold

1:15 it will be then. Two rounds of golf followed by a long drive
contest, CTP contest, and a ring of fire. $10 entry, $5 of which will
go to the cost of the tags. The other $5 will cover the cost of the
trophy, with the balance going to the contests. Hope to see you all
there.

We will play 2 rounds of 10 holes at the Sportsplex or a round of 12
at ASU & a round of 10 at the 'plex, if the ASU course is in the
ground by then.

I had a great time today, I hope everyone else did as well. I have
always thought the singles/high-low doubles was a fun, laid back
format. Congrats to the winners, David G.,Rivers,Chuck, & David
Croomes. I am excited for next month's 1st Sunday, which will be our
Club Championship.

You're Correct Bill,

tournament. If I did not it was because I thought you were going to

Everyone - There is a soccer tournament at the Sportsplex this
weekend. The south entrance will be closed, you will have to enter at
the light. They will be charging admission to the tourney, just tell
them you are playing disc golf and you will get in free. If they give
you any trouble, ask them to get in touch with Chad Vining or Tony
Clemons.

Roger - The first Sunday of October was the race in Talledaga. I
thought you went to the race and I thought I told you about the
tournament. If I did not it was because I thought you were going to
the race.

It looks like the date is fine with everyone.

Chandler, what is the earliest you can be ready to play? And we can
wait a little while if you are running a little late.

Sorry,
I replied before I read the rest of the posts. I tried the two finger fling myself a few times and I'm back to my COMFORTABLE old agressive 4 finger grip. I Think everyone should try new stuff though !!!!  You never know what's gonna help your game until you do.

You are right, that should have said sidewalk and right.

Unfortunately, the extra distance I was getting with the two finger
grip looks like a 2 day fluke. I am back to being a weenie arm. I am
still working on it though.

Hey Bill,
Just didn't want any confussion. On 7 , OB is the sidewalk or anything to the RIGHT of it.
I'm sure everyone who plays out at the plex would figure it out, Just wanted to verify that for newbie.

Bill Bullington <bill_bullington@...> wrote:
You are here and you play our course so you are in!

OB is a work in progress right now, the changes to the 3rd hole forced
us to look at what is considered OB. #3 was one of our better and
harder holes and it has been nuetered, so we thought we should toughen
it and #7 up with adding some OB. Here is the course OB as we play it
now.

#1 - In the water or across the water Across
#3 - On or across the sidewalk & in or across the ditch to the right.
#4 - Across the fence
#7 - Any shot on or left of the sidewalk
#8 - In the water or east of the water
#9 - In the water or across the water
#10 - Pavement or across pavement

The rule of thumb is any shot on pavement or in the water or on the
wrong  side of either is OB. As of now we are not calling the ditch on
#2 or #6 OB play shot in the water there as casual water.

We have several things planned for December, the Club Championship is
open to anyone who considers himself part of our club. We certainately
welcome you into our club and to that tourney. It will have no
divisions everyone will be playing for low bag tags and a GREAT looking
trophy. The Tennessee Valley Tour (TVT) will also be played at the
Sportsplex in December. The TVT is a regional entry level tournament
series that features 1 round of golf per event with a $5 entry for ams.
All PDGA divisions are offered at these tournaments. November's event
will be in Florence, if you have never played there you should it is a
fun course. The date for that event has not been set I will post it
here when I find out when it will be played.

Do yourself a favor, get out and play with the Rocket City Chain Gang.
They are some of the best people I have ever known, they made me feel
welcome and part of their club from the first time I played one of
their doubles events. I give them credit for showing us what a disc
golf club should be.

See you on the course.
