Keesling players and heat are winners

The Keesling players emerged as the better
players on a sluggish, sloppy day, though all had fun and
barbecue was eaten later at the Brinckwirth house, and
more beers were consumed. We got started at around
2:00 on a 100 degree day. Bottled beer was consumed.
Vince Salinas threw his first game as a starter and was
outdueling Scuffy McCabe into the 9th, when with one out and
two runners on, Vic hit a single to the fence to tie
the game. Lefty McCabe stayed out there and kept on
pitching strong, while Paco and Scott releived Vince,
whose arm was about falling off. After 12, we opted for
shade and a new game. In game 2, Scott brought his good
stuff and John did not. Despite Vic and Louis having 2
RBIs each, Kid Haskett had 3 RBIs, the day's only
homer and went 6-for-19 with 6 walks. Hitting seemed to
suffer all around. The only player whose offensive stats
improved was Kid Haskett, who has proved himself the most
macho in one sense every week (the ability to drink the
most beer in the hot sun and not only stay upright but
actually play well- this from a guy who weighs about 120
lbs.- incredible in the older sense of this adjective).
The pitching and hitting were a bit sloppy due to the
heat, but we'll all get used to the heat or learn to
get out of it. By the way, Jessica reports that the
sun never showed itself in Santa Cruz on Sunday. We
had the day off on Monday, and got exactly no sun. It
was about 65, gray, and breezy. After Sunday's brutal
sun, I couldn't have been happier. Still looking for a
good field over here. Where we play is the absolute
perfect field we'd been looking for all of our lives in
St. Louis; the Glenridge veterans agree. Anyway,
kudos to all the Keesling trio: Vince, we had no idea
what a ringer you've been all along (yeah, I'll spoil
your shit again-that's what I do), Scott for another
masterful game pitching (and for a selective batting eye
(do you realize you have the highest on-base pct. of
any non-Glenridge player at .388?), and Kid Haskett
for his beer stamina and abibilty to not make outs
(in a different and intersting way each time). We
look forward to another good outing on Monday,
Memorial Day. In the words of the now-deceased Joey Ramone
and all those violent lefties he was supplying arms
for "eh, oh, let's go!"
