A Fine Day for Stat Padding

"It was the best of times; it was the blurst of
times?? YOU STUPID MONKEY!!"<br><br>ACK ACK!! ACK!! ACK!!
ACK!!!<br><br>And so the Glenridge veterans strode the glade
haughtily after defeating home team Cambrian Parkers two
games out of three on May 6th, 2001. <br><br>Many
battles were fought on the field, but the most
interesting concerned a keg of Sierra Nevada which the
Cambrian Parkers imbibed enthusiastically and the
Glenridge Vets, excluding one, Bender Bennet, scorned.
(Okay, supposedly Willis attributes his not hitting
Lefty McCabe to a few cups).<br><br>Kudos to Lefty
McCabe, who singlehandedly defeated the Glenridge team
(minus Minsky), with a shutout and sole homer of the
game.<br><br>Cheers for Chente Salinas for rebuking doubters of his
place in the lineup with two key singles in back to
back at bats.<br><br>Jeers for Minsky, who rather
undemocratically scribbled over important marginalia regarding
controversial scorekeeping.<br><br>Cheers for Kid Haskett's
polemics.<br><br>Jeers for Viktor Trotsky (he of the frequent homerun
trot), who fussed when Clowny Jack invoked legalism to
nullify stats in aborted 3rd game: since said game was
called on the 10-run rule before 5 innings were
complete, none of the stats should count. It should be
added that Viktor was already concerned of this when
the game was called so early; he asked, "Doesn't this
mean my stats don't count?" It should further be
added, that the barage didn't ensue until Lou the Rake
entered the game, ostensibly in relief, perhaps, more
accurately, flinging churly birds for the boys to hit and
invoke the 10 run rule so that the stats wouldn't count
after all. Batting practice or stat padding? Such the
perpetual controversy.
