Chris Bennett, hitherto the most dominant pitcher
in any corkball setting, continued his rough
weekend. It was a tightly fought game through seven
innings, featuring dramatic clutch home runs and timely
singles (a 1-run and 2-run homer from Alan Minsky, a
3-run homer by Vic the hick Willis, a solo shot from
Mark Behrens, and a clutch one-out single by Bennett).
The score after 7 was 5-5. However, with one out in
the eighth, Vic Willis got a clutch single to drive
in one run, and Bennett got a swinging strike on
Behrens. When A. Minsk failed to get the fuzzy, Mark got a
single to the fence for two runs, beginning a barrage of
singles that did not end when the Minsk came in to
relieve. Before another out was recorded Will and Behr
lead 16-5. As almost a footnote, Minsk hit his third
homer of the day off of Behrens. Will went seven and
gave up 5 earned runs but got the win anyway. Bennett
went 7.5 and gave up 12 earned runs, since failure to
fuzzy is not an E in corkball yet (though that change
might not be a bad idea). Clearly, the second
opportunity single changed a tight game into a rout.
