Last sunday a milestone was reached in the Cambrian/Northern
California league - Vic "Doc" Willis got his 100th win in 100 degree
heat, and the icing on that cake was that it was also a no hitter. I
had a 30 minute phone interview with the Doc sunday evening. He
seemed elated, exhausted, effusive and exuberant (which is the
redundant alliterative way of saying "he was psyched").
Congratulations are in order to this fine corkball pitcher. He
seemed far more excited about the 100th win than he did about
achieving a .400 career batting average in the same game.
Our California affiliate will be heading into the playoffs soon, and
I expect them to post the highlights of that series of games,
individual and league stats for the season and other commentary
(*hint, hint*). The silence for much of this year from this league
has been deafening.
