Cork v. fuzz

To our California associates:

There are
many advantages to using a real corkball instead of a
modified tennis ball (most of them to the pitcher).
1.
It is harder to hit, but, when it does get hit, it
goes farther than the fuzz.
2. A corkball is half
the diameter of a baseball, but weighs 2/3 of what a
baseball does. This means fastballs go faster. My old cop
buddy Steve Fuchs (also one hell of a rock drummer)
brought his radar gun to Tower Grove one sunday
afternoon. We pitched fuzzies and corkballs, just to
compare. The corkball was much faster.
3. Breaking
balls and off-speed pitches. With a corkball the balls
break farther and faster, changeups and knuckleballs
are more effective, and, my personal favorite, YOU
CAN THROW SPLIT FINGERED FASTBALLS EASILY with a
corkball. (The splitter is my new not so secret
weapon).

I recommend switching as soon as possible. The only
problem I foresee is the occasional broken
window.

Good luck, guys. Look forward to the start of your
spring training.

My brother, John, you state quite eloquently the reasons for the superiority of the real corkball. You are right about the break of the pitched ball and the ...

1.) The safety factor = the wildness factor + the lack of equipment factor. When we were in high school, we came together around corkball. Two groups of kids ...
