Here's how Corey did against the Philadelphia Phillies yesterday, August 1:
3 at bats 2 hits
1 stolen base
No news about Corey at Cubs.com or Yahoo sports...his first two at-bats, he got hits. The first one was a perfect bunt- he used his speed to beat the throw to first. His second hit was a nice line drive for a single, and then he stole second. Unfortunately, his teammates couldn't score him. The Cubs still won 6-3!
Current stats: .272, 11 HR, 42 RBI, 15 SB

Here's how Corey did against the Philadelphia Phillies today, July 31:
4 at bats 2 strikeouts
No news about Corey at Cubs.com or Yahoo sports, and I didn't get to watch the game today, so I can't add anything. The Cubs lost 4-3:(
On an off-Corey topic, the Cubs traded Alex Gonzalez, Francis Beltran, and Brendan Harris to the Red Sox, and got Nomar Garciaparra and Matt Murton. The Cubs also sent Justin Jones to the Twins in return for Doug Mientkiewicz, and then sent him to the Red Sox as well. The Red Sox then sent Gonzalez, Beltran, and Harris to the Expos in return for Orlando Cabrera. It was a complicated four way deal.
While I will miss Alex, at least it wasn't Corey. I don't know what I would have done if that happened!
Here's how Corey did against the Philadelphia Phillies today, July 30:
5 at bats 1 run 2 hits
1 RBI 2 strikeouts
From Cubs.com:
Rheal Cormier gave up consecutive RBI singles to Mark Grudzielanek, Corey Patterson and Sosa before exiting [in the sixth]. The Cubs led, 8-6.
From Yahoo sports:
When Mark Grudzielanek's shallow fly fell over second baseman Placido Polanco's reach for a single [in the sixth], it got by Abreu in right and Gonzalez scored to tie the game. The runners moved up on Abreu's overthrow and Patterson hit a go-ahead RBI single. Grudzielanek was tagged out at the plate on a strong throw from center fielder Ricky Ledee, but Patterson moved up on the play and scored easily when Sammy Sosa hit an RBI single to right.
Corey also had a great play (I forget which inning) where he acted like he was going to catch a fly ball, but instead it dropped and he got it on the hop, and Lieberthal (of the Phillies) was on his way to second, and Corey threw the ball to Gonzalez, who got Lieberthal out there. Corey also made the catch that ended the game.
Here's how Corey did against the Milwaukee Brewers today, July 29:
4 at bats 1 run
1 hit 1 strikeout
1 stolen base
From Cubs.com:
[In the sixth], Corey Patterson hit a perfect bunt single. Patterson stole second and scored on Aramis Ramirez's double for a 4-0 lead. Patterson also made the catch of the day -- and possibly the month -- to end the sixth. He caught Lyle Overbay's fly ball on the run in deep left-center, crashed into the wall and bounced off, stranding a runner at second.
From Yahoo sports:
Corey Patterson manufactured another run when he bunted for a single, stole second and scored on a double by Aramis Ramirez to make it 4-0.
Here's how Corey did against the Milwaukee Brewers last night, July 28:
1 at bat no strikeouts
No news about Corey at Cubs.com or Yahoo sports, but that's probably because Corey didn't start the game. He didn't get in until the 8th inning, so nothing much happened with him last night.
Current stats: .271, 11 HR, 41 RBI, 13 SB

Here's how Corey did against the Milwaukee Brewers tonight, July 27:
3 at bats 1 run 1 walk
2 strikeouts
No news about Corey on Cubs.com or Yahoo sports, but I was listening to the game tonight (on my way back from Great America), and they walked Corey intentionally in the top of the ninth, and he moved up to second base on a wild pitch, then to third on a sac fly, and then scored the 7th run on another wild pitch. He also made the catch that ended the game in the bottom of the ninth.
Current stats: .272, 11 HR, 41 RBI, 13 SB

I'm awfully sorry about the delays in how Corey did in the games...I was away all weekend singing in a wedding...(the weekend in hell!). I didn't even get to see any of the games this weekend.:(

4 at bats
1 hit
2 RBI's
1 strikeout
1 stolen base
From Cubs.com:
Until the ninth, Barrett did not have any success against Milton. After giving up the hit to Barrett, Milton couldn't finish it. Grudzielanek kept the game alive with a two-out single, then Corey Patterson doubled to deep left-center field, scoring Barrett and Grudzielanek to tie the game. Madson replaced Milton, and with Patterson the go-ahead run on second, the lanky right-hander induced a groundout from Sammy Sosa to end the inning.
From Yahoo sports:
Corey Patterson doubled off the wall in left-center, tying the score and chasing the left-hander. (in the ninth)
Here's how Corey did against the St. Louis Cardinals today, July 20:
4 at bats 1 run 1 hit 2 RBI's
1 walk 2 strikeouts
From the Cubs website:
From Derrek Lee, Michael Barrett and Corey Patterson each drove in two runs in a seven-run second for the Cubs in the season finale between the two teams. Rusch singled off the left-field wall and Todd Walker walked to set up Patterson's two-run double for a 6-1 lead. With the loss, the Cubs dropped 10 games back in the Central Division.
What a horrifying loss it was. I was gone at the beginning of the game, and I came home in the top of the 5th, and it was 8-2 Cubs, but they ended up losing 11-8:(
Here's how Corey did against the St. Louis Cardinals last night, July 19:
4 at bats 1 run 2 hits no strikeouts
Neither the Cubs website nor Yahoo sports mentions anything about Corey's triple in the first inning, but it was awesome. He made some good catches out in center field too.
I was at the game last night...it was fun even though they lost. I think I got some good pictures of Corey too. I noticed after the benches cleared in fourth, that Corey was the last person over there. Of course, at the time, I had no idea what happened to cause the benches to clear, but now that I read the recaps, after Jim Edmonds hit a homer, he stopped to admire it, and Zambrano got irritated and yelled something at him, and then Barrett tried to protect Zambrano and he started yelling too. But when you're at the games, you really have no idea what is going on! But good for Corey taking his time to get over there!
Corey was given the day off today against the Milwaukee Brewers (July 18). Jose Macias played in his place. They did have Corey in the on-deck circle to pinch hit in the bottom of the ninth in case Michael Barrett got on base, but alas, he did not, so Corey did not play at all today. The Cubs lost 4-2:(
I'm glad he had the day off today instead of tomorrow there, because I'm going to the game tomorrow! I don't think I'll have that good of seats though, but I don't know exactly where they will be because it is a group thing with the Illinois State University Alumni Association. Go Redbirds! (the ISU ones, NOT the Cardinals!) There will be 500 of us in sec. 211-216, rows 11-23. My last chance to see Corey in person this year!
Here's how Corey did against the Milwaukee Brewers today, July 17:
4 at bats 1 run 1 hit
1 HOME RUN!
2 RBI's 2 strikeouts
Todd Walker singled to lead off the Cubs' eighth, and advanced on Rey Ordonez's sacrifice and a wild pitch by Luis Vizcaino. Walker then scored on another wild pitch by Vizcaino on ball four to Alou. Corey Patterson followed with his 11th home run, launching a 1-0 pitch from Vizcaino onto Sheffield Avenue behind the right field bleachers to go ahead 5-0.
I was a little worried about Corey with his first couple of at-bats being strikeouts, but I just knew when he stepped up to the plate in the eighth that he was going to hit that 2-run homer. The Cubs won 5-0! Love you, Corey!
Here's how Corey did against the Milwaukee Brewers yesterday, July 16:
4 at bats 2 strikeouts
Baker was upset at missed opportunities. Jose Macias doubled to lead off the first, advanced on Mark Grudzielanek's sacrifice and then Corey Patterson struck out and Sammy Sosa flew out.
Corey didn't have such a hot day yesterday. :( Let's get em today Corey! :)
Here's how Corey did against the Milwaukee Brewers tonight, July 15:
4 at bats 1 run 3 hits! 1 strikeout
1 stolen base
In the Cubs sixth, Jose Macias reached on a fielding error by shortstop Craig Counsell who couldn't get a grip on the ball. Macias was safe at third on Corey Patterson's single on a close play and scored on a wild pitch by Doug Davis (9-7). Davis struck out Sammy Sosa but Moises Alou tripled to drive in Patterson and go ahead 3-1. The Cubs won 4-1 to open the second half of the season!
Corey was great tonight. On top of the three hits, run scored, and stolen base, he made some good catches, including the one that ended the game. Go Corey! We love you!
Current stats: .280, 10 HR, 35 RBI, 10 SB

Mark Grudzielanek walked and Corey Patterson was safe on an infield hit that took a funny hop, allowing Macias to score. Sosa followed with his home run, his 16th of the season, to go ahead 4-0. The Cubs won 8-4!
Here's how Corey did against the Milwaukee Brewers last night, July 7:
4 at bats 2 hits
2 strikeouts
The Cubs lost 4-0 and got swept by the Brewers.
"I don't think we played bad. Sometimes you've got to give the other team credit," Cubs center fielder Corey Patterson said. "I hate to do that as much as anybody, but we know when another team is on a streak and playing pretty good. We played hard, and that's just the way it goes.
"We got swept, but every year in baseball you look around and what teams haven't gotten swept at some point?" Patterson added. "There's no need to panic, we're still playing great."
The Cubs will catch a one-day breather before opening a three-game series with the Central-leading St. Louis Cardinals, who won again on Wednesday to increase their lead over the Cubs to six games.
"They're playing good baseball right now and they're our rivals," Patterson said. "They'll come to play and we will too."
Current stats: .279, 10 HR, 34 RBI, 9 SB

Here's how Corey did against the Milwaukee Brewers last night, July 6:
4 at bats
1 hit
The Cubs wasted a key opportunity in the fourth, stranding Corey Patterson at third base following a leadoff triple. The Cubs lost 4-2:(
Even though they lost, it was really awesome to be at the game. There were SOOOO many Cubs fans there, I think more Cubs fans than Brewers fans! Everyone around us were Cubs fans, including some with Patterson jerseys:) It was certainly wonderful to see Corey in person!
Here's how Corey did against the Milwaukee Brewers yesterday, July 5:
4 at bats 3 strikeouts
Six other Cub players had multiple strikeouts during the game, including Sammy Sosa and Derrek Lee. Sheets, the Brewers pitcher, was really good yesterday. The Cubs lost 1-0:(

Here's how Corey did against the Houston Astros today, July 1:
5 at bats 2 hits 1 run no RBI's 1 strikeout
Corey Patterson singled with one out in the Cubs' first against starter Pete Munro, advanced on a groundout and scored on Moises Alou's single, which ended an 0-for-8 mini-skid. The Cubs won 5-4 in the 10th with a homer by Sammy.
Also, in one inning, Corey was at first and Moises was up to bat, and the Astros' pitcher, David Weathers, kept throwing to first to try and get Corey out, but Corey kept making it back safely. Corey got Weathers so worried that he would steal second that Weathers ended up walking Moises and advancing Corey to second anyway:) Corey also made an awesome catch to end the Astros in the 9th inning while they were still tied 4-4. Good job Corey!:)
2 stolen bases (and caught stealing twice) 4 home runs
.327 batting average
Sorry, I'm a dork and just found out what the abbreviation "BB" stands for...so I haven't been including that in the day-to-day stats...I will now though!
Anyway...we can see that Corey really did much better and exhibited more patience this month. In May, his batting average was only .250, and it is .327 for June! That's awesome. We love you Corey!
Here's how Corey did against the Houston Astros today, June 30:
2 at bats 1 hit 1 run 1 strikeout
Lee doubled to open the fifth and Patterson walked. Chicago loaded the bases in the eighth, including an 11-pitch battle between Corey Patterson and Brad Lidge that ended with Patterson drawing a walk. Corey really had an awesome at bat there. But, the Cubs lost 3-2:(

Here's how Corey did against the Chicago White Sox today, June 27:
3 at bats 1 hit no runs no RBI's no strikeouts

Here's how Corey did against the Chicago White Sox yesterday, June 26:
4 at bats 2 hits 2 runs 1 RBI 2 strikeouts
1 home run!
Corey Patterson hit a solo home run and a double to entertain the Cub fans among the sellout crowd of 39,553 at U.S. Cellular Field.
"Any time you have to face a new pitcher, you don't know what to expect," Patterson said. "They got their runs when they counted."
Patterson doubled to lead off the Cubs fourth and advanced on Moises Alou's groundout to Crede, who scooped up the ball on the run and threw from behind the mound in the defensive play of the game. Patterson then scored on Sammy Sosa's sacrifice fly.
Patterson, back in the No. 2 spot in the order, hit his ninth home run with two out in the Cubs fifth to make it 5-3.
Whew! Corey was sure mentioned a lot in the wrap on the Cubs website for this game! However, the Cubbies lost 6-3:( At least Corey did his part to help the Cubs!
