The local New Orleans paper, The Times-Picayune,
have a quaint and old-fashioned way of giving the
splits in miles. But, whether you consider them
that way, or in metric equivalents, they show
that Isabella Ochichi did not hang about: 1 mile
4:46, 2 mile 9:39 and 3 mile 14:37……
Ochichi runs away with women’s title
. . . . Benita Johnson set some of her own marks
Saturday morning. The 26-year old Australian
broke her personal best in a 10K by 11 seconds
and set an Australian national road record with 31:28.
"That's a real breakthrough for my country and
for myself," Johnson said. "I ran the race I
wanted to run. And my last mile was really good
and fast, so I was really happy with that. This
is a really fast course, and it was fairly hard
conditions with the humidity. So to run the race I did today was great. "
But Johnson knew early on that no one would catch Ochichi on this day.
"She got away a bit at the start," Johnson said.
"She's the world's best road runner at the
moment, I think, in the 5K and the 10K. She ran
really good. She was just too good for everybody today."

How refreshing to see an Australian runner quoted
internationally with such caring and mature comments . . . . .
ONE WOMAN'S VIEW: "My husband and I went driving
around the city yesterday and saw some of the
worst-hit areas. And it's really sad," said
Australia's Benita Johnson, who finished second in the women's field.
"We think that coming to a big race like this and
supporting a community event is the best thing
you can do to rebuild the community and bring
people together. I think the city has done a
great job. The people have helped themselves. The
people are so passionate about their city and
their homes. And I think that's fantastic. It's
certainly something to aspire to."
