Khannouchi is the target - Chicago Marathon Preview
Friday 8 October 2004
Chicago, USA - "I would be really happy if Chicago could get the World
record back," said Khalid Khannouchi ahead of Sunday's 27th running of the
LaSalle Banks Chicago Marathon (10 Oct). "This race is set for fast times."

CANBERRA MARATHON WINNERS AIM HIGH IN CHICAGO
Canberra Marathon winners Martin Dent and Shireen Crumpton will be aiming
for World Championship qualifying times when they race on one of the
world's fastest marathon courses on Sunday. They will use their prizes from
the Canberra Marathon to race in the Chicago Marathon.
Dent, formerly from NSW's Central Coast but who now lives and works in the
national capital, ran an outstanding race in April when he won the Canberra
Marathon in 2.15.12, just 10 seconds outside the race record.
Dent has demonstrated his good form since with a 63.49 half marathon at the
Gold Coast in July and a win in the Australian Half Marathon Championship
in Sydney last month.
New Zealander Crumpton will again try to break the elusive 2 hour 40 minute
barrier in Chicago. She won the 2003 Gold Coast Marathon in 2.40.10; was
fourth at the Gold Coast in 2002 in 2.40.20; and ran 2.40.25 in Boston in 2001.
Joining Dent and Crumpton in Chicago will be Canberra's Erwin McRae and
Scott Westcott.
McRae was third in the Canberra Marathon in April and won The Canberra
Times 10km Fun Run last month.
Westcott had one of his major career wins in August when he won the
Australian Cross Country Championships in Canberra, relegating Dent to the
silver medal. He has good marathon form on the board this year with a
2.13.30 time in London on the same day that Dent won the Canberra Marathon.
This ranks Westcott at number 3 on the Australian rankings for 2004, behind
Olympians Lee Troop and Sisay Bezabeh. Dent is at number 5 but, at this
stage, can claim the fastest time in Australia for 2004.

Not a "Running" story - but caught my eye:-
During a break in play at Wimbledon last year, just before Tim Henman was
to make another ill-fated appearance, the fabled centre court became the
setting for a movie about what the Brits prefer to call The Championships.
Oddly, the two stars, Paul Bettany and Austin Nichols, didn't hit any balls
