Cool Running Webwatch:-

On Tuesday night (6th Jan 04), saw the running of the ACT 10,000m
championships at the AIS track at Bruce. This year saw the naming of the
championships after well know runners in the ACT, who have contributed a
lot to Athletics throughout the years.
The mens 10,000m race was renamed the "Gerard Ryan Championships" and the
women 10,000 race was renamed the "Susan Hobson Championships".
The race started at 8:30pm, with the conditions cool, wet and a little
windy (a bit different that 35+ degrees we had in the previous days).
Another disappointing turnout for the championships with only 8 runners.
In the mens race, it was NCG Athlete, Anthony Haber, who took out the
Gerard Ryan Championship, in a solid time of 32:32.05. Haber won by nearly
2 minutes, lapping the entire field and lapping most of the other runners
more than once. Second place, and silver medallist, was Weston Creek's Vince
Craig. Vince ran most of the race by himself but was chased down by third
place, SCT Nick Walshe, however Vince held on to silver by 3 seconds.
There was only one woman runner in the field, and 2002 Commonwealth Games
marathon bronze medallist and former World Triathlon champion, Jackie
Gallagher had a solid run in 34:45.48. Jackie is in the middle of marathon
training, and I believe she is hoping to qualify for the Olympic marathon
team in August for Athens.
Here are the final results:
Gerard Ryan Championships:
1. Anthony Haber 32:32.05 NCG
2. Vince Craig 34:19.07 WC
3. Nick Walshe 34:22.22 SCT
4. Perry Blackmore 34:39.91 Not registered with a club
5. Stuart Doyle 35:07.05 SCT
6. Dale Moore 34:43.10 SCT
7. Gerard Ryan 36:00.76 WH
8. Ross Gregg 40:46.71 WH
Susan Hobson Championships
1. Jackie Gallagher 34:45.48 WH
