Should I get a racking horse   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #574 of 740 |
Hello,

I am new to the group. I am looking for some advice from people that
know racking horses. I am considering getting one.

I have only ridden for 3 years and I have a great MPH I ride. The
reason I am interested in Racking horses is for more speed. Is it
true RH can do 25-30 MPH for sustained distances?

Is it easy to control these horses at the faster speeds? I realize a
bad horse will be hard to control but what if you have a normally
good horse that gets spooked at a mail box cranking down the road at
25 MPH? Can they jump out from underneith you at these speeds as
easily as when your riding at 3MPH?

Ultamitely I am interested in a horse that will be good on long
distance endurance rides. 25/50 miles. I was going to enter with my
MPH but his average speed is too slow to be competitive.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thank you,

JD
