I'd recommend sending a note to the author of the article. I don't think
he was joking, he is just ignorant. When you don't understand the use of
a facility, you can't really comment competently on it's effectiveness.
Just like the article about the cyclist (technically, he was on a trike)
that was killed on Karl Rd a few weeks ago. The article claimed that the
snow was essentially responsible for his death because it was so piled
up along the sidewalk (from street plowing, and simply not being
cleared) that he was "forced" to ride on the street. Of course, no
mention that bicycle traffic has legal use of the road, regardless of
the weather condition, or that bicycle traffic does NOT belong on the
sidewalk, regardless of the weather condition (except for kids). Anyone
that read that article just gets subconsciouses confirmation that bikes
don't belong amongst traffic, and that drivers are not the ones to blame
when they hit a rider.
