Layne, et al
Kyle is building barriers for the Heath race, our practices and for cap city use.
He is going to build them to UCI spec and hinge them in the middle, so they can be folded up and transported easily on a roof rack. If you have input on how they should be built, you can contact him. He is down south on his mtb for the weekend.
The Heath course will have five barriers, and I'll make sure they are to spec.
I feel the added pressure, since it seems ovcx and cross in general has gained quite a bit of momentum this year.
I will speak to Tym personally about the results. I remember all too well the year he taped them on the outside of his trailer and drove away.

Subject: [columbuscross] Barriers
I'd like to make the request that we have good barriers for our races here, especially the OVCX race on the 9th. The barriers used at some of the Tyler events were far too tall and really narrow. I think the barriers should be plenty wide so 2 or 3 racers can cross them at the same time. If we don't do these right, we'll hear about it.
I have a feeling we'll have a good showing at Heath, (probably at least 4-times what we had last year) and think it would benefit the Columbus scene if address the details as well.
I'd be willing to help put in some time on these. I'd think a couple people could build them pretty quickly.
UCI height is 40cm, which equals 15.75". I wouldn't build them over 15" and would tend to go about 14.5 to allow for generous grass thickness and such. I'd think they should be a good 5' + wide. I'm working on the cap city cross logo and plan on cutting a template that we can spray paint on barriers and make signs with.
In addition, can we rely on someone to get results from Tyler at the time of the races? The points towards the series are a big deal to many and he doesn't seem to want to put the effort into passing them along. I'd like Columbus to stay in the series and think it's important we adhere to the rules. Otherwise, we'll be driving to all of the races in the future.
Any further thoughts?
