I'll try my best to answer any questions.
1. No pre-registration, only day of for Cap City Cross this year. Good news, if you've never raced any bike races (road, cross or mtb) then it's only $10 if you race the C's. It's a 30 minute race but the most fun you'll have in 30 minutes!
2. Yes. This year our series is completely open. If you'd like to try an A race with the big dogs (60 minutes) go for it. But be warned the A race will have current and ex-pro's as well as many top state ranked racers. Very fast! Fun to watch, (Ring cow bells) and learn.
3. Definitely. Try it on your mountain bike first. You won't be severely handicapped on your mountain bike, especially in the C race. If you have skinny tires (1.8" or so), I'd put them on. You'll notice the difference when you have to carry your bike for 30 yards in a cross race but other then that you'll do fine. No bar ends are allowed in cross though.
4. I doubt you can pre ride Olentangy except the morning of since it's a private business. We should be announcing a few cross practices starting next Wednesday September 5th. Feel free to come out to one. We'll keep you posted.
Do a search on youtube.com for 'cyclocross' you'll find tons of great videos that really highlight the sport, especially the Belgian races. Also check out road bike reviews cyclocross forum: http://forums.roadbikereview.com/forumdisplay.php?f=47
5. Cross isn't like road racing or mountain bike. It's just fun! Be prepared for a short fun intense roller coaster ride. Oh, don't be nervous. Cross is a very safe sport.

My friend and I are planning on participating in this event, and
possibly others.
We just have a few questions.
1. Do we need to register in advance, or can we register the day of?
2. Do we choose our class (A,B,C) at first?
3. Is it okay to ride our mountain bikes at first instead of bona-
fide cross bikes?
4. Are we able to go out to the site and ride the course in advance
to get a feel for it and practice a little?
5. Any other newbie things we need to know, like stuff we have to
bring, etc that people often overlook thier first time?
Thanks!
