The North American Gay Volleyball Association (NAGVA) awarded Denver the honor of hosting its Silver Anniversary championships tournament. The tournament, “NAGVA Championships XXV” will be held May 25, 26 and 27, 2007 at the Colorado Convention Center and will host approximately 1,000 players from Canada, Mexico and the United States . NAGVA is to gay volleyball what the NBA is for men’s basketball, and it sanctions tournaments all over the U.S.A. and culminates with this annual championships tournament. Level of play ranges from AA, A, BB, B to an all-new "spirit" division, designed more for recreation versus the intense competition of the highest level of competition, the AA division.

 

The host organization responsible for winning the bid for the Silver Anniversary NAGVA Championships is the Denver based non-profit GLBT sports organization Colorado Gay Volleyball Association (CGVA.) CGVA produces two annual tournaments, “Volleypalooza” (Denver PrideFest Weekend) and “Last Dig in Denver” (March) as well Spring and Fall volleyball leagues and manages approximately 700 volleyball players throughout the year. CGVA has been an active member of Denver’s gay sports arena for 10 years. http://www.CGVA.org

 

There are three major international GLBT sporting events happening in Denver Memorial Day Weekend, bringing an estimated 5,000 visitors: NAGVA Championships XXV, the International Gay Bowling Organization (IGBO) Annual Tournament XXVII, and the International Association of Gay Square Dance Clubs (IAGSDC) Annual Convention XXIV.

Admission to watch NAGVA Championships XXV is free, and all volleyball players are welcome to compete, but must be  NAGVA sanctioned.
