DENVER AWARDED NORTH AMERICAN GAY VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Denver, CO: The North American Gay Volleyball Association (NAGVA)
awarded Denver the honor of hosting its annual championship
tournament. The tournament, �NAGVA Championships XXV� will be held
May 25, 26 and 27, 2007 at the Colorado Convention Center and will
host approximately 1,000 players from Canada, Puerto Rico, Mexico and
the United States. NAGVA is to gay volleyball what the NBA is for
men�s basketball, and it sanctions tournaments all over North America
that culminates with this annual tournament.
The host organization responsible for winning the bid for NAGVA
Championships XXV is the Denver based non-profit GLBT sports
organization Colorado Gay Volleyball Association (CGVA.) CGVA
produces two annual tournaments, �Volleypalooza� (Denver PrideFest
Weekend) and �Last Dig in Denver� (March) as well Spring and Fall
volleyball leagues and manages approximately 400 volleyball players
throughout the year. CGVA has been an active member of Denver�s gay
sports arena for 10 years. Several Denver volleyball teams are
traveling to the 2006 NAGVA Championships XXIV being held in Atlanta,
Georgia.
CGVA CALL FOR CORPORATE AND VOLUNTEER SUPPORT: CGVA will be assisting
NAGVA in producing the tournament and will be seeking corporate
sponsorship, host hotel and bars, and local entertainment support.
CGVA also seeks volunteer assistance in various specialty areas
including sponsorship, development, public relations and marketing,
in addition to at-large committee volunteer support.
NAGVA Championships XXV will be the 25th Anniversary of the
tournament, and per R. Tony Smith, CGVA Vice President, �CGVA�s goals
are to simply produce the best championships ever and to create a
fun, exciting and memorable experience of Denver for all.� Leading
CGVA�s NAGVA Championships operating committee is Jim Francis,
longtime member of CGVA and former board member for NAGVA.
