Ohio State assistant coach Mark Snyder will be
announced as the new Marshall coach Thursday.
The 40-year-old Snyder, a former standout defensive
back for the Thundering Herd, has been the Buckeyes'
defensive coordinator for the past year.
Known as one of the rising stars in the profession,
the energetic Snyder built a strong reputation as a
recruiter in his days at Minnesota and at OSU with a
keen eye for talent. The Marshall brass is hopeful he
can re-charge the Thundering Herd program and its fan
base as Marshall prepares to move into Conference USA.
Florida assistant Doc Holliday had interviewed for the
job and was considered a front-runner before
withdrawing his name ofrom consideration on April 8.
Bob Pruett retired this spring after the the
Thundering Herd finished its final season in the
Mid-American Conference with a 6-6 record, its first
non-winning season in 21 years. The school moved to
Division I-A in 1997, a year after it won the Division
I-AA national championship.
Pruett is the most successful coach in Marshall
history, going 94-23 five MAC championships and five
postseason bowl victories.
