That's why I wrote "the conventional wisdom is that
the single biggest improvement for any college
football team occurs between the first and second
games of the season." I didn't state it as a fact
because I didn't do any research.
As you know, a sample size of eight games is far too
small for statistical significance, especially without
accounting for the strength of the teams and
home-field advantage. Nor can improvement always be
measured in wins and losses.
