Freehold, NJ --- Driver Ron Pierce had a bang-up day at Freehold
Raceway on Friday, winning five races on the 12 race slate.
The 46-year-old resident of Clarksburg, N.J. tallied with Angelo and
Anthony Benenati Night's Ronny ($6.00), Donal Bruhn's Artesian
($2.40), Fred Monteleone Stables' Monte Hall ($3.80), Jeffrey
Snyder's Lasting Luck ($5.60), and Mentally Stable's Check And Raise
($6.00).
The five winners gave Pierce a total of 14 for the meeting, good
enough to lead all drivers at Freehold.
In the co-featured $15,000 Open trot, Pierce guided Monte Hall to an
easy four and one-quarter length win in 1:564. The clocking equaled
the Freehold track record for older trotting horses, last lowered by
Smokey Legend in 1998.
Freehold's 1:552 all-age record for trotters was set by Pine Chip in
a Breeders' Crown event in 1994. Pine Chip was a 4-year-old when he
set the Freehold record.
