Hall of Fame driver John Campbell added yet another milestone to his credit=
as he tallied his 9,000th career win with Scandalous Affair in the tenth ra=
ce on Tuesday night at the Meadowlands. The accomplishment comes just three=
days after Campbell's record seventh victory in the $1 million Meadowlands =
Pace with Mach Three. Campbell joins the company of Herve Filion, Walter Ca=
se, Mike Lachance and Dave Magee, as the only drivers in harness history to =
surpass 9,000 career wins.
Campbell, 47, is the sport's all-time leading driver with more than $200 m=
illion in money won. A winner of an unparalleled 20 million-dollar races, C=
ampbell became the youngest Hall of Famer when he was inducted at age 35 in =
1990.
Campbell entered the Tuesday night program at the Meadowlands only four sh=
y of the 9,000-win plateau. He picked up victories in two early non-wagerin=
g events with two-year-old trotting fillies Pick Me Up and Southwind Maywood=
, and won the second race with Radar Sign. Since the Ontario-born Campbell=
arrived in New Jersey in 1978, he has won 6,200 races out of more than 33,0=
00 starts while capturing an unprecedented 16 driving titles at the Meadowla=
nds, the latest in 2001. He became the first driver in harness racing to re=
ach $100 million in earnings at a single racetrack on March 18, 2000 at the =
Meadowlands. He has dominated the Meadowlands' million-dollar races with a =
record seven wins in the Meadowlands Pace and five in the Hambletonian.
Campbell and his wife, Paula, reside in River Vale, New Jersey. They have=
three daughters: Lisa (23), Michelle (21) and Brittany (12)
