Hamsik: Napoli tried everything Monday 23 November, 2009

________________________________

Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik insists his side did everything to try and beat
Lazio on Sunday, but ultimately came up short.

The Partenopei remain unbeaten under Walter Mazzarri, but Sunday's draw was
their second in a row.

Speaking to Mediaset, Hamsik said: “We tried to win the game, but we
didn't manage it. We found a Lazio side in front of us that closed
everything down and left little space.

“During the game, Mazzarri looked for maximum points, bringing on
offensive players. It's a shame, because we put everything into it. But
now we have to face facts.

“We have to go forward with the same determination,” Hamsik concluded.
Walter Mazzarri:“It went much better than against Catania. In the second half
we pinned
them back, but the ball didn't want to go in the net. Juan Zuniga can
be a useful figure.”

Napoli 0 - 0 Lazio

Stadio San Paolo

The spoils were shared in Napoli's second consecutive goalless draw that takes a
little of the pressure off Lazio.
The
season has certainly turned around for these sides, as Lazio started on
a high and came into this game with Coach Davide Ballardini facing the
axe after five points from 10 rounds. Napoli began dismally, but new
Coach Walter Mazzarri transformed the side with three wins and two
draws. Salvatore Aronica was suspended for the Partenopei, while
Francelino Matuzalem, Ousmane Dabo, Sebastiano Siviglia, Riccardo
Perpetuini and Albano Bizzarri didn't make the trip.
Lazio
had the stronger overall start, but the first real chance went to
Cristian Maggio, who chested down the long Michele Pazienza ball
between two defenders and forced a very tough point-blank range save
from Nando Muslera.
Morgan De Sanctis flapped at a Pasquale Foggia cross, but Stefano Mauri slipped
and was unable to pounce on the loose ball.
Marek
Hamsik parried a Mauro Zarate shot with his elbow, but it was in front
of his face to protect himself. Nonetheless, Zarate protested so much
he earned a yellow card.
De
Sanctis smothered a Zarate long-range effort, but in the first half
Napoli rarely threatened and didn't manage to earn a single corner.
Lavezzi
had a nasty knock when one of Aleksandr Kolarov's incredibly powerful
free kicks smacked him right on the ear, as he needed smelling salts to
rouse him.
Maggio just failed to make contact with a Lavezzi corner and Quagliarella nodded
wide as Napoli were now in control.
The
game turned nasty when waiting for a free kick, as video evidence
showed Julio Cruz biting Rinaudo's wrist, so the Napoli player reacted
by hitting him on the side of the head. The referee took no action.
Quagliarella
limped off with a muscular problem. Muslera took two attempts to
smother a German Denis blockbuster and Hamsik drilled over.
In
stoppages Kolarov needed what was practically a goalline clearance to
deny Napoli the winner from a corner, diving in to intercept Rinaudo's
half-volley from seven yards.

Naples, the five days of Mazzarri and the new glory winds

The Blue Week
by Bruno Marra
In less than 20 days the Napoli has redeemed more than 20 years. A wall falls
down with the new wind. History debris and glory dust. The 5days of Walter
Mazzarri perfume of advent, they have a coded course and a subliminal message.
We didn't win in away match since one year. Done. We didn't win at Turin since
21 years. Done. We didn't gain a point at Catania in premier league since
october 1983, 26 years ago. Done. Here the completed menu: the Napoli had
never gained 7 points in 3 consecutive away matches since the return in premier
league. These 7 points represent more than the half of those gained the last
year far from the San Paolo stadium, when we gained just 11 points far from our
stadium.
Not only the Napoli but also the numbers have acquired a soul. A soul that now
is not feezing because it has appropriated the warmth and the fragrance of the
suggestion. The Blues have gained 18 points in the first  12 days,  that
means, going on in this way we can surpass the record of 50 points, still actual
record of the first year in premier league with the direction of  Edy Reja who
opened the Eurpoe's door. Of course the soccer isn't a matter for accountant.
But it is a low profile prospect if we consider the Walter Mazzarri's average:
11 points in 5 days.
The draw at Catania is as important as the Trioph at Turin. One gives worth to
the other. This is the virtuous syllogism that has characterized the exciting
steps of the Mazzarri's walk. Without the first feat, probably the second one
there weren't. The previous reverberates splendour to the next one and the next
one makes legitimate the previous.
It is through matches like that of the  “Massimino” stadium that the
structure is fortified and the certainties become stronger. O'er of  the
emotional rise  and of the exciting hyperboles, it is in the 'normality' of the
championship that you can build the solid foundations.
In the nature there is just an animal wilder than a lion: a starving lion. And
the blue lions have just heated the jaw up. In less than 20 days the Napoli has
redeemed more than 20 years. The 5 days of  Mazzarri wind glory and history. In
the air there is the perfume of a new Age…
