Reja eyes Udine deja vu Saturday 20 September, 2008
________________________________
Edy Reja hopes to repeat fond memories of Napoli's 5-0 victory away to Napoli,
although Ezequiel Lavezzi is missing.
“That really was a great performance,” smiled the Coach when reminded of
that historic result at the Stadio Friuli.
“We were a surprise back then, but now opponents know and respect us. That
includes Benfica and we still haven't shaken off the hangover of that UEFA Cup
win.
“We deserved at least a couple of goals' advantage to take into the second
leg, but 3-2 is still a good result.”
Napoli must do without two of their star players for this trip to Udine, as
Lavezzi picked up a knee injury during that game against Benfica.
“It's a shame. Pocho will be out for a couple of weeks with that right knee
problem, while Christian Maggio has a muscular twinge.”
There were fears Lavezzi would be sidelined for far longer, but tests showed the
ligament was only strained and not damaged.
“Daniele Mannini is not ready for a match situation yet, so I don't know if I
will take him on the bench. Leandro Rinaudo and Salvatore Aronica will be fit,
but I have to see how Luigi Vitale and Matteo Contini are doing.”

Lavezzi relief for Napoli Friday 19 September, 2008
________________________________
Napoli breathe a sigh of relief, as Ezequiel Lavezzi’s knee injury will only
keep him out of action for two weeks.
There were fears the star striker could be sidelined for at least a month after
damaging knee ligaments during last night’s 3-2 UEFA Cup win over Benfica.
However, the official club website confirmed today that tests with Professor
Mariani in Rome found it was only a sprain to the medial collateral ligament in
the right knee.
This means Lavezzi should be back in action in the next two weeks, so possibly
in time for the second leg in Portugal.
However, the Argentine will miss out on Serie A games against Udinese this
weekend, then Palermo and Bologna.
Inacio Pià is likely to take his place alongside forward Gustavo German Denis,
a role he took very effectively during the Intertoto Cup campaign while Lavezzi
was at the Olympics.
“I have changed a great deal in recent years,” Pià told Radio Marte.
“Napoli have given me great motivation and I have also matured in my
technique.
“The club believed in me and I want to prove I am worthy of wearing this
short. I will give everything I can for the team at any given moment.
“We all showed we can play at the highest level against Benfica and it was a
wonderful victory. I am sure we will improve in future and the 3-2 result was
actually tight considering we dominated for long periods.
“The return leg in Portugal will be tough, but Benfica must take the
initiative there and we can try to make the most of our pace. I am confident
Napoli can battle it out with anyone.”
Napoli squad:Iezzo, Gianello, Aronica, Cannavaro, Contini, Rinaudo, Santacroce,
Blasi, Dalla Bona, Gargano, Hamsik, Maggio, Mannini, Montervino, Pazienza,
Vitale, Denis, Russotto, Pià, Zalayeta
