Napoli eye three recruits

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has reacted to fans' protests at the
Birra Moretti Trophy by revealing he is lining up three new signings.
The newly-promoted Azzurri were beaten 1-0 by Juventus and 2-0 by Inter in
45-minute matches at the Stadio San Paolo in front of 50,000 fans, many of whom
showed their displeasure.
De Laurentiis and Coach Edy Reja often recieved a lukewarm reception from the
demanding Vesuviani faithful last term, and now there is still unease after an
unexpectedly quiet summer in the market.
Now it seems that the club’s patron is ready to react to critical banners and
chants by flexing his chequebook.
“This is the same side that took us up from Serie B, and when we were in the
Cadetti they said that we had Serie A players, but now that we are up they
aren’t good enough,” De Laurentiis lamented.
“We have made three signings so far, but we are ready to make another three. We
are a club that thinks of the future and we’re not just creating a squad for one
year.”
Napoli’s tactician was more positive and stressed that his men need a little
more time to adapt to the quality of top-flight opposition.
“We’re not quite ready to take on sides like Inter and Juventus, but we are
gradually getting there,” he explained.
“I’m happy with the new signings and especially Ezequiel Lavezzi who really
impressed me. I knew him and his quality and it seemed strange that he had been
receiving some criticism recently.
“I just saw a party and I don’t want to comment on any banners. I’m sure that
once the season starts the fans will be behind us.”
