Alex sinks Napoli

Alessandro Del Piero earned Juventus a 1-0 win over Napoli in the first match of
the Trofeo Birra Moretti.
The prestigious tournament played at the Stadio San Paolo in Naples was watched
by around 50,000 fans and will also witness the first clash between Inter and
the Bianconeri.
The opener saw Juve taken on hosts Napoli with a trident attack consisting of
Vincenzo Iaquinta, Del Piero and David Trezeguet.
Del Piero had a shot on goal almost immediately, but it was Napoli who
threatened more in the first half with Emanuele Belardi performing a couple of
tricky saves on Hamsyk and Emanuele Calaio'.
However, at the start of the second period of this 45-minute match, Del Piero
decided the result with a powerful left-foot strike from 20 metres.
The Trofeo Birra Moretti is traditionally a tense affair and tempers flared when
Tiago Mendes clattered into Walter Gargano.
Iaquinta could have made it 2-0 at the death, but he wasted a golden
opportunity.
The second match of the evening will be Napoli-Inter.

Cracking goals from Dejan Stankovic and David Suazo saw Inter defeat Napoli 2-0
in the second Trofeo Birra Moretti clash.
Having lost the opener 1-0 to Juventus, Napoli were straight back in action
against Inter for a second 45-minute match.
Within 60 seconds Luis Figo had an ambitious shot on goal whistle just wide of
the near post, while new signing Rivas made his Nerazzurri debut.
Rivas didn’t have the best introduction to the fans, as after four minutes
Erminio Rullo skipped past him and crossed for a Roberto Sosa header that
skimmed the woodwork.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic chipped a cross from the by-line for David Suazo, but it
floated back on to the crossbar in a lucky escape for Napoli.
Maurizio Domizzi’s intervention proved decisive as Ibrahimovic sent Dejan
Stankovic running down the left and he crossed low for the incoming Suazo.
Inter are still without their South Americans who took part in the Copa America.
Napoli had a fantastic scoring opportunity on the stroke of half-time, as
Roberto De Zerbi floated in a free kick for Domizzi’s glancing header and
brought a stunning one-handed save out of Julio Cesar.
The Nerazzurri had an even better chance straight after the restart. Marco
Materazzi held up a Figo free kick for Patrick Vieira, who somehow managed to
balloon over the bar from a yard!
Grava dribbled past Cristian Chivu, although Materazzi was there to clear up,
and Suazo set up a promising chance for Ibrahimovic’s weak finish.
Figo moved to the left flank and had a shot charged down by Domizzi. Cristian
Bucchi replaced Hamsyk for Napoli’s new system, switching De Zerbi to a
trequartista role.
Inter broke the deadlock with a scything rocket from 20 metres that Stankovic
smashed into the bottom far corner after 32 minutes.
Napoli barely had time to get back to their positions when Suazo surged forward
and curled another splendid right-foot finish under the bar.
Gianello parried a fierce Ibrahimovic effort and another shot from the Swede set
up by Suazo. Just from these pre-season friendlies, it seems as if the
Suazo-Ibra partnership is truly spectacular.
The tournament concludes with the anxiously awaited showdown between bitter
rivals Juventus and Inter.
