Napoli 1 - Palermo 1
Thanks to a goal by Dionigi, the encounter between Napoli and top side
Palermo finished in a draw. Napoli came close in the fourth minute
through Perovic who after receiving a pass from Dionigi forced Palermo
keeper Berti into an outstanding save. Two minutes later Manitta
comfortably saved a freekick from Corini.
In the 17th minute a shot from distance by Vidigal shaved the post to
the right of Berti. 11 minutes later referee Rodomonti gave Napoli a
penalty for an obstruction in the box against Vidigal. Dionigi converted
and Napoli was in front on 28 minutes. Palermo responded quicky, a shot
from Corini from outside the box nearly caught Manitta by surprise, in
fact he did well just to deflect the ball away for a corner!
Then in the 41st minute, Palermo equalised, Filippini turned the Napoli
defense inside out and beat the keeper with a powerful right footed
strike. The teams went to the break at 1-1.
The second half was not as incident filled or exciting as the first.
There were honestly two naoteable incidents. In the first minute
Gasbarroni came close for Palermo with want turned out to be a weak
header into the hands of keeper Manitta. In the 22nd a shot/cross from
Bernini hit the top of the cross bar and went out for a goal kick.
After the game coach Gigi Simoni was pleased with the draw against the
side who have displayed consistently that they are the best in Serie B
this year. "The team we encountered is undoubtedly the strongest side in
the championship. Shame about throwing away the lead, but they did
really deserve to draw level. The first half was great but at the end
the heat got to both teams." said Simoni in the post match conference,
All considered the point is valuable against a side most teams have lost
against this year.
Have a Happy Easter and Forza Napoli!
