Another disappointing match by the Napoli team. After dominating the whole 90
minutes all the efforts did not pay out. In the first half and especially the
last 20 minutes Napoli created a few good opportunities, but Dionigi and Savoldi
couldnt finish it off. At the beginning of the second half Napoli was again
putting a lot of pressure on the Triestina defence. But with some great saves by
Triestina goalkeeper the score remained the same. At the end of the game, the
Napoli team looked too tired to score the winning goal.

Serie B review
Atalanta 0-2 Verona
League leaders Atalanta are in the midst of a crisis after a shock home defeat
to Verona. The Nerazzurri went into the game after their 5-1 destruction by
Cagliari at the weekend and another defeat followed. Veteran midfielder Italiano
put the Bentegodi outfit ahead in the first half. The Bergamo club tried to get
back into the tie but promising youngster Papa Waigo scored with nine minutes
left to secure three unlikely points for the away side.
Scorers: Italiano (V) 24, Papa Waigo (V) 81
Bari 1-0 Genoa
Bari’s slim hopes of survival are still alive after a crucial victory against
fellow relegation candidates Genoa. A goal from veteran stopper Gaetano De Rosa
in the final stages was the only difference in a tense affair.
Scorer: De Rosa (B) 83
Cagliari 1-1 Messina
Ten man Cagliari rescued a point which may prove crucial in their hopes of
securing promotion. The Sardinians were on a high after their 5-1 drubbing of
Atalanta. However the smiles disappeared on 30 minutes after goalkeeper
Pantanelli was sent off. Within 120 seconds, Parisi had given his side the lead.
Yet an injury time goal from Loria ensured a 1-1 draw.
Scorers: Parisi (M) 32, Loria (C) 93
Sent off: Pantanelli (C) 30
Catania 1-0 Treviso
Mid-table Catania left it late to beat Treviso in a tight affair. Mascara netted
the only goal of the night to ensure a 1-0 win.
Scorer: Mascara (C) 93
Fiorentina 1-0 Salernitana
Fiorentina collected another home victory thanks to star striker Rigano. He
netted the only goal in the first period to ensure that the Viola’s good home
form continued. It’s just a pity that their away form, where they have yet to
win this term, may end their dreams of promotion. Veteran Angelo Di Livio was
surprisingly left on the bench.
Scorer: Rigano (F) 39
Livorno 1-0 Ascoli
Former Torino striker Cristiano Lucarelli was on the scorsheet again as he
helped his hometown club defeat Ascoli. However, their job was made
substantially easier after the visitors had Baccin dismissed in the 62nd minute.
Scorer: Lucarelli (L) 71
Sent off: Baccin (A) 62
Napoli 0-0 Triestina
Napoli’s attraction to draw continued at the San Paolo against promotion chasing
Triestina. The Azzurri have been playing quite well of late but their lack of
potency in front of goal again saw them fail to score. It ended 0-0.
Pescara 0-2 Palermo
Having won their first game under boss Francesco Guidolin on Sunday against
Toro, Palermo collected another three points this evening. Luca Toni gave them
the perfect start by piercing the net after just four minutes. Jeda added a
second late on. The Sicilian outfit are now just one point behind leaders
Atalanta.
Scores: Toni (P) 4, Jeda (P) 77
Piacenza 1-1 Como
Piacenza’s hopes of cementing their status as realistic promotion candidates
were hit by little Como. The home side were in joint second before the game
where they were expected to dispose of struggling Como. Yet despite taking the
lead through Lucenti, Como grabbed a point courtesy of Carparelli.
Scorers: Lucenti (P) 18, Carparelli (C) 65
Torino 2-1 Ternana
Torino got their promotion campaign back on track with a victory against fellow
Serie A dreamers Ternana. Having lost 2-1 to Palermo on Sunday, the Turin giants
really needed the three points at the Stadio Delle Alpi. They ended the first
period with a 1-0 advantage after a goal from Rubino just before the break.
Veteran midfielder Diego Fuser added a second on 69. That proved to be a crucial
strike as Esposito netted a consolation goal for the Rossoverdi.
Scorers: Rubino (T) 42, Fuser (T) 69, Esposito (Te) 78
Venezia 2-1 Albinoleffe
Venezia grabbed a vital three points against Albinoleffe which has improved
their chances of survival. It had looked like it was going to be another bad day
at the office for the Lagunari after Possanzini gave his side an early lead. Yet
Giubilato and Maldonado saved the day with crucial second half goals.
Scorers: Possanzini (A) 2, Giubilato (V) 58, Maldonado (V) 85
Vicenza 2-2 Avellino
Bottom of the table Avellino are still searching for their first away win of the
season after a 2-2 draw at Vicenza. Zdenek Zeman’s side twice took the lead on
the night but failed to take home the points. Sorrentino and the Milan owned
Kutuzov both found the back of the net but Vicenza responded with Venezuelan
international Margiotta and Moscardi.
Scorers: Sorrentino (A) 26, Margiotta (V) 31, Kutuzov (A) 39, Moscardi (V) 59
