Napoli 1-1 Ancona
New Coach Franco Scoglio made his home debut, but could not find Napoli’s first
win of the season at the Stadio San Paolo. The team showed battling spirit
against Ancona, but once again failed to make the most of their chances.
Goalkeeper Francesco Mancini was left in the stands and will be transfer listed
this month, while Scoglio changed to a 3-4-3 formation with Roberto Stellone,
Davide Dionigi and Antonio Floro Flores upfront. Napoli rattled the woodwork
with a Fabio Montezine free kick and Stellone turned an excellent opportunity
wide, but it was Ancona who broke through with a Giampiero Maini angled drive.
The home side fought back and drew level with Dionigi’s acrobatic effort. There
were further chances to take the win, but in the final minute goalkeeper Marco
Storari kept them in it with a fingertip save on Maini.
