I hope to see a lot of you there tomorrow at 7am for our open water practice.
The air and water temp look good for tomorrow. I will be following the group in
a kayak as I'm not allowed back in the water yet.

If you get a chance please reply to this email if you are coming.

Thank,
Coach Mike

Please remember to only park in the 3 legal spaces on the street or at the  Community Center.

I will again be kayaking.

See ya there!

Hi Mike,

It has been a while since I have been swimming, but my husband and I would be willing to help out with the kayak support that morning.  Let  me know if you need us and what time.

Thanks,

For those of you not swimming in the 1 mile Centennial Lake Swim this
year that our team is putting on, please consider volunteering.

https://www.clubassistant.com/club/meet_information.cfm?c=1749&smid=3657

Right now, I'm trying to get people for kayak support (we have kayaks
and vests... just need more people!). It's the morning of 5/13. Fair
warning, that's Mother's Day (Coach Mike likes to challenge me!).
You'd basically be responsible for helping out swimmers who are having
trouble with the swim... letting them hold on... calling for help (or
bringing them to shore) if they can't finish. It's easy... and you
get to play in a kayak for an hour.

If you can help, let me know... thanks!

Hello,
I'm not sure what happened but for some reasons the text of the email I just sent did not appear. So here it is again. Hopefully this time it will work:
Philippe

Hello Friends,

It's Great Strides time--our annual Walk to raise funds for vital cystic fibrosis (CF) research. If you didn't already know, my 13 year old son, Justin, battles this disease every day. With this event we support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's efforts to find a cure for this disease. Their progress has been astounding! Please give what you can (no donation is too small!). To register to walk with Justin's Team or make a tax-deductible donation to CFF securely online at: http://philippecf.homassel.com/   (if you prefer, you can aslo give me a check made payable to CFF at a practice just let me know).

This year the walk is not on during the Columbia Tri but during the Bay Swim. The Walk will be on Sunday, June 10th at Centennial Park (new location!). There will be a silent auction, performance by the awesome Kangaroo Kids, a tae kwon do demonstration, DJ and much more!

Also new this year--Justin's Team t-shirts with a logo designed by Mr. Bracco, the Art teacher at EMMS. They are $15 each. To see the logo and place an order you can use this link: http://tshirts.homassel.com/

I also invite you to check out our latest video-- http://video.homassel.com/

As always, we couldn't do this without you!! Thank you all so very much! It truly makes a difference in Justin's life!

We had amazing weather and lots of swimmers for our open water swim in Centennial Lake.  We had 148 entered and 130 entered the water and 128 completed the swim.

The event ran right on our timeline and all the volunteers from the CMYM team and others pitched in to make this event a success.  I have received a lot of very positive feedback with lots of hope that we continue to do this event in the future.

I want to thank the following people (I know I will miss some):

·         Mike Stepanek for being the Safety Director this year and helping blow up buoys and test swimming the course.

·         Barbara Cooke for being our Event Starter.

·         Brian Luoma for helping set the course with me and then for checking who entered and exited the water.

·         Our kayakers safety crew: Matt Toomey, Susan Yost, Katy Cavanaugh, Patty Devanny, Tory Toomey, Rena Jacobson, Jeff Kriebel, Bruce Breon, Sue Mangan, Angie Kozlowski

·         Timing chip collectors: Tyler Yost, Mike Yost, Aaron Jacobson, Adam Jacobson

·         Dan Beisel for bring 2 kayaks

·         All the CMYM swimmers that brought items, picked up food, did registration check-in, etc….Jamie Courtney, Michael Gamazaychikov, Abby Glassberg, Stephen Hicks, Frank Krach, Scott Moffet, Stacey Moffet, Ed O'Malley, Marcos Otazo, Carole Owen, Gloria Serrao, Shay Strong, Anneliese Thomson

·         Also to Abby’s daughters that got volunteered to help with DNFs and photographing the event for us

I am sure there are others that I missed in this list.  Attached are the results for this race.

Thanks again for your support!

A special thanks should go to Coach Mike for putting this great event together.  The few of hours we spent at the lake yesterday were only possible after (what I can only guess were) weeks of planning, securing permits, logistics, putting togther packets, volunteer organization/coordination, safety planning, etc.  Everything worked like clockwork.  Thanks Mike!

I wanted to congratulate all the CMYM swimmers that did the Centennial Lake Swim.  Below is the list of time and places.

I would also like to recognize Dan Beisel who came in 2 overall in the race and was the overall male winner in the wetsuit division!!!  Our team had Five 1st place finisher, Three 2nd place finisher and Two 3rd place finisher.  I wanted to point out Coach Steve Hicks finished 5th overall but was 3rd in his age group (and swam an additional +50 yards too).

For anyone interested, it looks like the storm is going to end early morning Saturday and swimming may be doable.  Anyone interested in swimming at Sandy Point, meet at the Y at 7:30 for swimming by 8:30.  Hopefully, by then, the skies will be clear and the water calmer.  I’m pretty flexible on time, so if something works better for the group, send out an e-mail and we’ll go with the majority.

Let me know if you plan on meeting so I know who to look for.

P.S. Also I ordered some new team gear for our practices and our own rolling cart to keep it safe and sound in.  Look for it to show in the next couple of weeks.

As some of you are aware … we made a little money this year hosting the Centennial Lake 1 Mile Swim this past May 13th.  So we purchase some practice gear for our Ellicott City practice location.  We now have a rolling cage that has 40 kick boards, 40 pull buoys and 40 paddles that we can use for our practice.  The plan is to roll this to the shallow end of the pool deck when practice starts and then put it back when practice is over.  I put a cable lock on this cage.  If you would like the combo please see me or a coach at practice.  Right now I want to just have this equipment used during practice.

Also in the next couple of weeks I will be updating the clocks so they stay synchronized.  During that time we may only have one clock at each pool available.

Thanks again,

Coach Mike

I have had a couple of people ask about ordering the custom CMYM towels (30"x60").  I costed them out and they are about $20 each if I order 30 and less if I get more.  If you are interested in getting these towels please email me and if I get enough interest I will order them this coming week and we should have them in 5-7 business days.

Thanks,
Coach Mike

Subject: Lightning Policy Update
mpjacobson2000

I know there was a lot of complaining on Tuesday night when we were kicked out due to lightning.  There is a new policy on lightning but it had not been relayed to all the staff yet.  I have made the Y management aware of this and they promise in the future that it will be followed.  Below is the policy:

*******************************************************

The pool will only close when a storm is within 5 miles of the center.  When Lightning is seen or thunder is heard ask management or someone from the front desk to check the distance of the storm. If the storm is obviously right over head close the pools.  Pools will remain closed for 30 minutes for every time Lightning or thunder is present within the 5 mile radius. The 30 minute clock restarts and does not add on to the remaining time. If the storm is very clearly out of range and Lightning/Thunder is still present but the 30 minute clock still has time on it go ahead and still open the pools.  Note: When closing the pools for storms everyone must leave the pool deck. People should not be sitting on the bleachers or standing around. If at any time the lights go out for any reason clear the pool.  Do not close for heat lightning unless instructed otherwise.

As most know I crashed actually going down steep part of Ilchester about 30 mph
with hill repeats my front tire caught in something and I was propelled over my
bars and my bike flipped with me. I struck my helmet and above my left eye
sunglases cut me and was shattered but probably svaed a lot of my face. I just
remember, well, blood and pain and as a ICU RN with some trauma experience with
our soilders thought I was going to be a major head trauma. My main concern at
the time was of course my bike my husband spent what we had for me this year on
my first and really nice time trial bike. I was so blest with amazing bystanders
one a Rick Bender and Leslie ... who took my bike home. Amazingly I ended up
with only 17 stitches my gash went almost to the bone and a mild broken nose but
no other fractures and I am so grateful no concussion. If you do not think your
helmet and sunglasses aren't important you are mistaken. I am hanging my helmet
eventually in my basement blood spatter and all as a reminder. I am training for
Lake Placid IM for the 2nd time and have been placing in many races this year so
had hopes of doing well I 'll accept anything as long as my effort is great
though. I was just entering my taper I have done a lot of tough training this
year and so love my swim team my coach put me back on it this year:-) I am
healing so fast I can hardly believe it and have been back on my bike today and
LOVED IT and even tried running in this heat mid morning I made it 1 hr 10 of my
1 hr 30 min rest on treadmill so I am back on for Lake Placid. I kep telling
them in the ER I was still doing the race and it was a good sign din't Chrissy
Wellington crash and then go on to win. I do not know if I will win or not but
it will be a great effort.
I so appreciate the thoughfullness of the team sending Abby G over with fortune
coookies I even off diet ate one and already read all the fortunes, I love love
the Fat Tire beer too I love beer and wine so with deepest humble thankfulness I
love my swim family and I hope I do well at Lake Placid. I so love doing Ironmen
I think I am obsessed.
Thank you once again there is no better swim team around:-)
