The weekend of April 22-24, Craig Dewing, Katie Hennessey, Mark
Hutton, and Coach Ray headed out to Fairfax, VA for the Colonies Zone
Championships at George Mason University. Because of their efforts,
CMYM placed 9th in the small teams category. Although everybody swam
well, Craig Dewing had a STELLAR meet, almost making a clean sweep in
setting new team records in every event he swam.
On Friday night, he started things off by breaking Dave Ofstead's
1000 Free Record (12:50.34 set at the 2002 Colonies Zone meet)by nearly
a full minute with a very impressive 11:50.54.
The next morning, he continued with the 200 free, breaking his own
record (2:02.99) by more than two and a half seconds (2:00.24).

We interupt this recounting of Craig's deeds with a truly awe
inspiring feat. In the final heat of the Men's 200 Freestyle, 36 year
old Michael Ross of New England Masters broke Ron Karnaugh's USMS record
in the 35-39 age group with a jaw-dropping, blistering time of 1:39.90
(No, that's not a misprint). It was an amazing event. We now return
you to your normal programming.

Next up was the 50 free where he narrowly missed Teck Choo's record
(23.22) by 0.15. Two events later, he dropped his 50 Breaststroke
record (30.70) by more than a second to 29.59.
Saturday finished with Craig being the second CMYMer to break the minute
barrier in the 100 IM with a 59.13.
Sunday morning saw Coach Ray's 100 free mark (53.91 set at the
2002 Colonies Zone meet)fall by more than a second and a half to 52.30.
Craig continued his onslaught by breaking his own 100 breaststroke
record (1:11.03) with an eye popping 1:05.69. Two events later, he
broke Coach Ray's 100 backstroke record (1:06.14 set at the 2003
Colonies Zone meet) with a 1:05.20. And, Craig then finished the day
with a 50 fly swim that missed Teck Choo's record (26.21)by a mere 0.33
with a 26.54. Overall, a very fine day. Way to go!
