I miss masters swimming and hope to return in April,
but I am happy to relate the birth of our second
child, Peter Kriebel, on February 14. He was 19.5
inches long, 8 lbs 6 ounces and is now up to 11 lbs 2
ounces, so he is putting on weight nicely and is just
happy as can be.
Also, in the spirit of the message on identity theft,
which I really appreciated, I have a tip to pass along
related to running in winter. I am primarily a runner
now; it's just easier to fit into the schedule. But
what to do on those snowy, icy days?
Not to worry. Take an older pair of shoes and drive
some 3/8" hexagonal-head sheet metal screws (available
for cheap at Home Depot, Lowe's, etc) into the
outsole. Yes, just grab them with a pliars or
vise-grip and screw them right in. Voila -- studded
snow tires for your feet. (See attached photo). My
dad always swore by them, and so I finally got around
to trying them myself this winter. I was unable to
slip even when I tried, on some really icy surfaces.
And the looks on people's faces as you clack by in
your homemade cleats is priceless.
Enjoy the rest of winter.
Jeff
