Last week's open water swim was outstanding! We swam about 3+ miles
out into the Severn River, around an island, and back. The water was
clean, cool (but not ice cold) and smooth. No boat traffic. Even had
access to an private outdoor shower (with hot water) to clean up and
change before work. The XTerra wetsuit performed very well, but it
was not necessary - one of our swimmers went without and was very
comfortable.
We plan to do it again this Monday morning, again at 7 am. Once
again, I welcome CMYM participants. If you don't want to do the full
3+ miles there is a great out and back from a sandy beach to a pier
that is probably just over one half mile round trip. The water is
fairly shallow. No sharks or snakeheads, either, at least that I saw.
The location was about 3 miles off the Rt 178 (Crownsville) exit from
I-97. It took me about 15-20 minutes to get to work in the Columbia
area from the swim spot.
