Subject: [cmym] 2009 Open Water Practice #1 4/20

Air Temp 48F.  Buoy said 52F but I think it was colder in the Little Round Bay.

It was raining and the water had more chop then I had ever seen on it.

Coach Mike, Carin, Alistar, Marco and Max started the swim on the cold raining Monday morning.

Coach Mike has some sinus issues due to the cold water and bailed after about 100 yards.  Carin also turned around due to her back and the water temp.

Philip and Alistair swam to point and back. Max swam to point, then to channel marker beyond the point and back.

The wind was such that is was coming directly at us on the way out, making for the most difficult conditions I can remember on any of these swims.

Just past the point, Max encountered a stream of what he could only refer to as "ICY water". It made him pause and reconsider his desire to swim out to the channel marker. It was much much colder. When he got back into warmer water, it felt like I had entered a warm pool.

Basically, rough day, for all but we will put it in the books as the start of our Open Water Practices and I'm sure it will only get easier from here on out.  Hope to see more of you next week.
