I leave today, Monday 2 Nov, for Orlando and DEMA show - the big only one dive trade show in US. USOA and Women Divers Hall of Fame have booths; there are hundreds of exhibits, seminars and shindigs. Thursday nite, Mike Gower will recieve a NOGI - US dive honor society - BIG deal! and we'll be there to lead the applause.

Also a WDHOF member gets one too. There are 4 categories: Service, Science, Sport/Edu, Arts. Mike is getting Service and Bonnie Cardone is Arts. Show runs Wed thru Sat. Booth set up tomorrow. I have to leave today as it takes all day to cross country - SF to Florida. I'll have laptop but only in room, say, 10 pm to 8 am. Use cell phone - 650 224 8353 needs be.

I am sorry to miss the Calif hockey event  next weekend - but Sean has all the stuff and some extras as needed: mouth guards, swim caps, polo caps, small first aid kit, clippers for guards. Guards are 2@ $5 or $3 each; polo caps $20 each; swim caps 2 @ $5.

Hey,

I still have a few sphera masks for the order I place a couple of
weeks ago. They are masks with black squirt and can be yours for the
incredible price of 41 dollars each.

Send me an email if you are interested.

As we now have dates for Denver, I am reminded that players last year were fussing (with good cause) about very dry skin with the many games and very dry air at altitude - Denver is mile high city. It will be worse this year with Friday play.

Suggestion:     On the shelf with body washes (at Walgreens anyway) is one single product, by Olay - in blond bottle with yellow/gold cap - In shower body Lotion - ultra moisture. Very little if any fragrance - I know as I am allergic to fragrance stuff. You use it at end of shower and rinse off. Works great!!

Hey guys,

We really need to get two volunteers to help Julie set up and prepare for the banquet. If anyone has wives or girlfriends that are planning on joining at the banquet please can you persuade them to go early like 6pm to help out?

Rich/Kendall - please can you send this same request to the club puck players so we can get two more volunteers from your end?

Ideally we need 4 helpers to get the banquet ready.

Thanks everyone,
Sarah

So I volunteered to host the banquet for the tournament. I'm looking for people to help start the cooking for the banquet (male or female). The food will be prep'd and ready to go so if anyone can show up around 6pm to help that would be great (please let me know asap if you can do so).

I offered to host the banquet not put on the banquet by myself. There's no way that I can be in the pool playing and expect Julie to start the cooking for over 60 people that will be part of the tournament.

Several people have stepped up to make this tournament happen I'm just looking for a couple more people.

Club Puckers,

Our practice start times have slipped, a subset of players set up the court, late comers feel entitled to be included no matter what, blah blah blah. All the usual stuff at this point in the Club Puck cycle of life. Now too is the point where more and more of us are noticing the overall amount of time wasted, the disparity of work done, the unfairness to those who do show up on time and are ready to play on time, etc.

So ... it's time to reaffirm our strict adherence to the policies that we already have but have slacked off on enforcing:

1) If you want to be assured of playing in the first half, be in the water and ready to play before 8:00 PM (this change back to 8:00 was agreed upon by everyone at practice last night. The later time had been implemented to allow for parking in the after 8pm spots but has become less of an issue now that most of us park in the pre-school lot) on Tuesday/Thursday and before 4PM on Sundays.

2) If you are late expect to join the game at halftime. There may be rare exceptions where it is clearly to the advantage of those already there to include the latecomer (like maybe in a 3 on 4 situation, not just "oh, Doug's a strong player and we'd like to raise the level of the game"). This may never happen. Don't look for it.

3) Teams will be picked or sorted out and then everyone will help with setting up the court. If you want to warm up it must done before set-up, not during.

We've been having mostly good turnouts and some great games lately so hopefully getting a little more timely with our start times will allow for more fun for all. It's been especially fun seeing the continuing improvement and contributions of the "class of '06" and those that have started playing even more recently. Keep up the good work.

Regards,

kendall

Below are the people we have on the list as playing this weekend. Please double check the list for us. If you are planning on playing but are not on the list or are on the list but can't play, please let us know asap.

Also, the banquet afterwards at Greg and Julie's sounds like quite a spread. We need to know who is planning on being there for the purpose of getting the right amount of food. It will start after the tournament around 7:30-8:30PM, depending on when we finish up. Cost for food and beer is $15 per person. Please respond asap to Kendall with the names of those coming to dinner(extras too). Thanks.

More info to follow with details of start and finish times, team rosters, etc.

Hey teams,

It would be good if everybody could arrive at the pool by 9:30AM (or earlier, pool is open at 7AM) to help set up walls, take up the black lines off the shallow court, set up tables, sound system, food tables, etc. If you see something that needs doing please jump in and do it. We won't have a lot of time so we need to all pitch in. The water polo practice is scheduled to end at 10:00 over the deep court. The swim team practice is scheduled to end at 10:30 over the shallow court but we are hoping they will get out a little early. The first games are scheduled to start at 10:30AM. Neither of our teams is playing but there are 2 games at that time and we will have to provide all the refs for both games. Josh is coordinating refs for those first games. Our teams will play each other in the second game at 10:55.

Please bring coolers to the pool if you can. We need several.

Here are the teams:

Team 1

Brigit
Chris Schultz
Curt
Josh
Lyndon
Maddy Rives
Mark Z
Mike G
Oren
Rob Hennesey
Scott S
Aaron R (arriving around 1pm, won't take anyone's spot in the playoffs as he signed on at the last minute)

Team 2

Bob Burres
Derek

Greg Appling
Ken Kelsen
Kendall

Just got this via the Philippine UWH egroup. Looks like the Asian UWH Championships just expanded from 3 countries (Philippines, Singapore and Japan) to include a 4th country (Australia).

Good for them!

Kids,

Lyndon's firm has clearly been paying their public relations people recently.  In addition to the Time article you've all probably seen ( http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1931582-2,00.html), he's just had a great article in USA Today (http://www.usatoday.com/money/companies/management/entre/2009-11-09-solarcity09_CV_N.htm), with even better press for Hockey that the Time article.   The great part about the Time article was that it mentioned hockey as part of a sentence, in a totally matter of fact way, without mocking it or even hinting that it was non-normal.  The USA Today article mentions hockey as critical to his success, again without mocking.

We're getting mainstream! :-)

Hi gang,

I guess you now all recovered from great Saturday tournament and Greg's party and one of you noticed he’s missing his mp3 player head set.

I collected one on the pool deck.

I’ll go to Thursday practice and bring it with me => you’ll be able to collect it.

Cheers,

Dimitri

So, before I check out for a couple of days, let me clue you in to the
Holiday Party theme. I'm sure you all can add some detail that'll make
it even better, and we'll have lots of time to think about it, since
we're WAY ahead of schedule.

I'm liking Sean's suggestion of having the party honor his birthday.
According to my notes from a few years ago, Sean's birthday is actually
on Dec 19 (our party date) and he'll be celebrating his 39th! That's
worth a big party!

Sean's nickname is Sparky and if you don't know yet how he got that
name, start asking around. It has to do with Fire, so the theme will be
Fire! Since we don't want to be too selfish (right, Sparky?) we'll
honor everyone who has a birthday during the holidays, since they suffer
every year up by having their birthdays up against the big holidays. By
my calculations, that includes the Superhot Maddy, the Hothead Yori, and
the Hot (Hockey) Mama Carol. Be sure to add in any names that belong on
the list.

Of course that means that the dress code is to wear something Hot and/or
Red.

I'm thinking that there should be a contest amongst the qualified to
show us some food that is made with Fire. You know the kind--it makes
you go "Oooooo". It seems fitting since at least a couple of our
birthday babies are great cooks too!! These foods must be prepared with
Fire on the night of, so we can all go "Oooooo". Items prepared with
Fire could be a main dish, dessert or beverage! Anyone is welcome to
enter the contest, but remember that you will be disqualified if you set
off the smoke alarm or singe the ceiling...

I'm hoping that Mike will also finally finish a Fire project that he's
had on the list for....mmmm, at least a decade. Ask him about it.

Of course there will still be the standard potluck dinner, gift
exchange, cookie exchange and kids gift exchange and kids activity.
Hmmm, we might have to start at 6am this year....

By the way, there won't be any fire breathing in the house!!

Speak amongst yourselves for a few days and let me know of any
additional Hot ideas.

And isn't it just my luck.  Unfortunatley I'll be seeing my brother who is back from Afganistan on leave for just a bit. I wish I could be there.  I'm sure that it'll be fun as usual.

Happy Premature Christmas!!!!

Hey Yori,

Hope all is well down south! How ya doing?

Just wondering if you might be looking to come for a visit up to Canada in November and maybe get in a good tournament while you’re here? J

We’re looking for a couple players still for our Ottawa team playing in A division at the Montreal tournament from Nov. 20 – 22nd. There are 2 Canadian Men’s teams, a local Montreal team, Ottawa , and another A team confirmed so far in the A division.

Would love to have you come up and join us! Can you also pass this email along to Kendall Banks as he would be great to have come up too!

Let me know ASAP!

Thanks!

Darryl

hey guys,
thanks so much for the nice get well card. it's nice to know you are
there for me. too bad it doesn't speed up the recovery time much.

only 2 more weeks in a sling and then physical therapy. sounds like
fun, huh? this typing left-handed definitely sucks! the doctor's
post-surgery report made me realize it was definitely an overdue
procedure, however, so i guess i'm glad i had it done.

throw the puck around a few times for me!

Hi Brigit,

I was unaware of something happening to you.  I won't ask you to explain, since typing is an issue.  Just know that I'm sending good thoughts of a speedy and full recovery your way.

Take care.  My best to the family.
