Hi all,
I know that it's a little late and that Maddy already shared a bunch of wonderful photos with you, but I finally figured out how to share mine too and decided to throw them into the mix. If you check out the photos at Ofoto, it's easy to order copies and they are very good quality. Enjoy! Brigit

In May, the World Underwater Rugby Championships will be held in
Denmark.
The United States entered a men's team for the first time when Worlds
were last held in Germany in 1999.
We would like to enter the first USA Women's Team this year.

We have several women who are committed to going but it is not quite
a full team (15 members)
And the women that are committed come from several geographic
locations in the US (Boston, NY, CT, FL).
We are not letting distance stop us.
We would love to have you join us in Denmark. (25-31 May)

Please let us (miata_nina@...) know if you will accept our
invitation and become a Charter Member of the USA Women's Underwater
Rugby Team.

And as we need to enter the team ASAP (as in last week), make that decision
quickly. Denmark has reduced the entry fee for us 'far away' teams - comes to
about $130 each. Entry fee higher for rugby as they support their referees to
worlds. Otherwise, costs about same as WC hockey but much shorter tournament
- less cost for accommodation time - 7 days only.

You do have to get to Denmark of course. Fly to Copenhagen, take train about
2 hours. Have to have team suits, but I think they are solid color - deep
blue and white - I don't remember nationals colors from '99. Water polo caps
with numbers required. We'll likely have some sort of shirt and/or jacket a
la hockey - in '99 had polo shirts, denim shirt and jacket.

We had a great time, even while getting beat, in 1999, so come along! and get
back to Miata now now now. Yes, your house mother is going.

Hi Yori, and thanks for asking.  Unfortunately, my ribs are healing VERY slowly.  It's very frustrating!!  I miss the hockey (and I think it's wise not to play until I feel comfortable putting my arm over my head), and I especially miss you and the rest of the gang!!  I feel really bad when I read something on the group email that I'm clueless about-- I feel so detached (-sigh-).  Kick some butts (but not ribs) for me.

See some of you in Hawaii, at least!

T,

I seem clueless about certain subject on the group email, such as vehicle problems.  Certain subject is just too boring and/or too long to read.

I'm pretty clueless when I'd kicked people in the pool too. My standard reply, as Cliff puts it,  is "I'm so sorry, did I kick you?".

Oh, Brigit rib problems wasn't caused by my kicking.  I was out in the sub box at the time.

OK, I'll keep it short. The plan, such as it is, is to have the McKinley
Memorial Bachelor Party this coming Monday (3/10). We don't know what time,
or what place (it'll either be in SF or not). Now you know what I know.

More details to follow.

Hey boys and girls,

As some of you know Lyndon and my self are Burning man gurus and would like to encourage you guys to join us this year.  A lot of you talked about going but never went.  Let me tell yea, you are missing out!  You only live once and therefore you must try everything (Maddy’s motto in live).  To make things easier on you, one of our friends is planning to setup a camp and invite you guys (since we talk so much about you) to join us.  For more information read her email at the bottom and let us know if you are interested so that she can add your name to the distribution list.

Hope to hear form you!

Take care,

Madeleine

PS: Andrea, Steve said that you guys are going this year but he said that you must send me an email to confirm his statement =)

Subject: The Camp

Hi Guys,

It's me again . . . and if you're getting this email, you've either committed to attending Burning Man or I have simply refused to consider the possibility that you might not join us.  =)   If you're sure that you won't go, you're not planning to camp with this group, and/or you don't care to hear any more about it from this particular pipsqueak, please let me know and I'll stop sending you these messages.  [I know I'm completely obsessed.  I can't seem to help myself.]  If you know someone who'd like to get the messages and isn't, lemme' know that too.

What's up?  This time, I'm bugging you for a substantive but administrative reason.  As mentioned in my original email (below), we have the option of setting up our own Theme Camp this year.

Why would we do that?  A Theme Camp would both afford us a way to interact with/give back to the community and secure camping space for our group closer in to the Esplanade (the B'Man equivalent of Main Street).  It would also give us the option of having a mapped location at Black Rock City, which goes a long way toward all of us and our friends being able to find the camp, especially when we first arrive (because we will not all be arriving on the same day/at the same time and anyone who's been there knows how difficult it sometimes is to find other people).

What's the catch?  The "down side" of a Theme Camp is that it requires work.  We'd have to choose the theme, name the camp, and plan how it will work.  I have an idea for a name ("Juntas!"), and Miss Shelton had a terrific idea for a low-stress but high impact project earlier (if she's willing to share it).  But all ideas are welcome, and maybe a few of them can be combined.  When the time comes, we'll also need to divide up any tasks involved in running the camp (depending on what the camp's chosen activity/project is).

Why talk about this now?  If we decide to establish a Theme Camp, we need to officially "register" the camp with Burning Man in order to get our camp plotted on their map.  The Burning Man staff just opened this year's Theme Camp registration process yesterday, so now would be the time to start in order to get a good spot.  I'm particularly concerned about starting early because tickets for the event are disappearing so quickly that I suspect there will be many more Theme Camps this year, which means greater competition for space.  I'm really happy to do the registration, lead the camp formation, and serve as the contact person for our group, but as this is supposed to be a group vision (as opposed to my own), I'll need to get some input.  [That is, unless you'd like to live in a camp where I am High Priestess and you are all slaves bound to do my bidding...  >=^)  ]

What do you want from me?  Two things:  (1)  tell me whether you want to do a Theme Camp or not;  (2) if you DO want to do it, tell me whether you can help me plan it or not (at this point "help plan" only means giving input about what the camp will be called and what it will do).

{poke, poke}

{tugs sleeve}

Bridget

p.s. - If you're considering going but you haven't bought your tickets yet, BUY NOW ANYWAY.  Lower-priced tickets have sold out, and the price just keeps getting higher as time passes. You can always sell your ticket if you choose not to go -- by the time the festival rolls around, tickets at today's price ($225) will be sought after.  Gate prices will be at least $250!

Subject: Invitation to a Life-Altering Experience

Hi all,

I'm cordially inviting each of you to join Chris and I at Burning Man 2003 (August 25 - September 1).  I know what you're thinking:  "Is she kidding me with this?  It's 7 months away -- and I'm not even sure what I'm doing this weekend . . . ."

I'm bugging you now because:

·          Burning Man is not the kind of thing that you should try to swing at the last minute.  That particular weekend has a way of filling up, somehow the event sneaks up on us every year, the trip does require some preparation, and the longer you wait to buy tickets, the more expensive they get.

·         Burning Man is not the kind of thing that you should miss.  Take it from this pretty darned straight-laced absolute chicken:  you've got to participate in this, even just once. You won't regret it.

As this will probably be our last BMan, Chris and I'd really love to share it with all of you.  It's inspiring.  It's exciting.  It's a project.  It's a spectacle.  It's like nothing else on Earth.

Yes, it's also bizarre.  But it's good  bizarre, and lemme' tell you:  if a small-town girl from Wisconsin (!) can love it, so will you.

So just think about it, for now.  Let the possibility settle in the back of your mind.  I'll be gently stirring it up again (and again, and again) as the event approaches and the time for reserving group camp space draws near -- which I will be happy to do/organize if we get enough participation.   That said, please don't fear a "hard sell."  I'm just trying to drum up interest, not annoy my friends.  =)

Thanks,

Bridget

ps -- For those generally interested, the 2003 Theme is a heady one:  Beyond Belief.  Here's the official theme description:

"What is any religion? A little ritual, a little superstition, and some magic. It's not a strictly spiritual affair; it has psychological roles to fulfill. You might not want it to be a religion based on your own experience but that's like wanting to clean up your dreams"
- Gary Snyder

Beyond belief, beyond the dogmas, creeds, and metaphysical ideas of religion, there exists immediate experience. It is from this primal world that living faith arises. The intention of Beyond Belief is to explore this mystery. In 2003 we will invite participants to create interactive rites, ritual processions, elaborate images, shrines, icons, and temples: visions of realities profoundly other and far greater than our conscious selves. Our theme will occupy that ambiguous territory that lies between reverence and ridicule, faith and belief, the absurd and the dazzlingly sublime. The human urge to make events, objects, actions and personalities sacred is protean. It can fix on and inhabit anyone or anything. This year our art theme will release this spirit in the Black Rock Desert.

Here's the latest plan. We meet at Chevy's in the City on Monday at 7pm for
dinner. I think the address is 3rd & Howard. Or at least close to there.
Look it up. We'll eat, then we'll run amok. 'Nuff said.

Any questions, talk to the committee.

Sunnyvale, CA - At approximately 7:00pm at the Orchard Supply Hardware at El Camino and Lawrence Da Goze saw and spoke with the legendary Doug Tipton.

When asked where he lives the reclusive Tipton replied, "Just right here," pointining in the general direction of Sunnyvale.  According to Tipton he still works in the construction business.  He has been in the Santa Cruz area, Montana and now back here.

Being a man of few words Mr. Tipton excused himself pointing to his companion and offerring these final words, "Um.. I gotta go, he's my ride.... see you."

Stunned by this brief meeting Da Goze stumbled out of the hardware store pondering the fickle hand of fate that should have brought about that night's meeting.

      What could it mean?

Due to so many people being in Hawaii club puck hockey will be cancelled Tuesday, March 18th and Sunday, March 23rd.

There *will* still be hockey on Sunday the 16th, Thursday the 20th (and all other days). If you are in town please make an effort to make it for the 16th and 20th. There should be enough people to have a good game.

Update for campers, the turnoff to the camping is the same as on the map to
the wedding ,8/10 ths of a mile south of mile marker 99 there should be
multi colored streamers marking the gate. There is a lock on the gate
combination is 1369 it is very important to replace the lock in series with
the other lock so either lock can open the gate. It is about 3.2 miles to
the beach. Mark and Wanda should be settled in there by then and will have
the lowdown (best spots to camp etc.)
If you can let me know your arrival time there are a few people that may
need a ride from the from the airport. Aloha.

Hey there Club Puckers.
Looking forward to seeing a bunch of you out here in the middle of
the ocean soon. I am going to Kona on Sunday and wondering if anyone
else is arriving on that day so I can catch a ride from the airport.
I also haven't rented a car yet so if anybody has space in their car
I would split the cost with you. If all else fails I can get a car
and if there is anyone that is interested in splitting it with me let
me know.

OF course you still owe me for a car share from the last time I saw you at
Nationals. It will be good to see you again. I miss all those stories. We go
to Maui till Thurs, then to Kona till Monday. And you've got no problem
cause all you need is car to get to the party, we still need a plane ride
back to Maui. But that can wait. Aloha Joey
