Subject: ACC's - Looking for a team?

Hi all,

Colorado is sending half a team to ACC's and we wonder if you know anyone from California that would like to go and join our team.  The choice of A or B division for us depends on who we get to join our team but so far we have the following for sure: Orri, Brandie, Eric Straily and Dave Young.  Agnes, Tristan and Ianna DeBrunner are maybes at this point pending Agnes' recovery after the eye surgery to fix her loose retina.

We would be a fun Western team going East to bring some gold back.

Can you please check with your clubs to find out if anyone is thinking about going?

Cheers,
  Orri

Rich,

How a bout  putting the plug back in on Sunday. There were lot of interest on playing hockey on Sunday, but most people haven't had a chance to doodle.  I believe we should have enough players to play a game on Sunday.

[Attachment(s) from Dennis Belcher included below]
Hello all,

I received an email from Jerry Kashiwada of the California Department of Fish and Game and they will be doing a new Creel Survey in April, May and June. It is a good way to get up on the Northern Coast and help record the number of abalone being taken.  If you have never done it is quite easy.

Thank you,
Dennis Belcher

The Abalone Project needs help in covering up to 10 abalone creel sites for 2 days in each of 3 months this Spring.  This is a great opportunity for volunteers to experience first-hand one of the most popular recreational fisheries in California and have some time to visit the north coast.  Participants will be interviewing abalone fishermen at traditional creel sites and will not be involved with enforcing fishing regulations.  Non-biological staff and non-Department volunteers are welcome to help.  Dates selected this year are April 26 & 27 (Fridays and Saturdays); May 26, 27 & 28 (Memorial Day weekend - Sunday, Monday, Tuesday); and June 23 & 24 (Sunday & Monday).  People can sign up for single days and three days were selected in May in case people have problems working on the holiday.  Some travel expenses and pay for Scientific Aids from other projects can be covered.  Because of budget concerns, travel expenses covered by abalone funds will be limited.  We will cover lodging costs up to a total of $168 (but no more than $84 per night) plus taxes and three days per diem.  Airfare will not be covered.  Private car mileage can be claimed for up to 200 miles.
Sites include Shelter Cove (southern Humboldt County), Hardy Creek, MacKerricher State Park, Van Damme State Park, Arena Cove, Moat Creek (Mendocino County), Salt Point and Fort Ross area (Sonoma County, Fort Ross only open in June).  The sampling is done for about 3 ½ hours during morning low tides.  For information on participating with the creel survey contact Jerry Kashiwada at the Fort Bragg Marine Region field office (707) 964-5791.

Hi,

We are planning creel surveys again for this year (details in attached file).  I'm not sure yet how many volunteers we will need since the Fort Ross area is closed for the first two months but let me know if you are interested in helping, particularly in June.

Thanks,

Jerry

Ann_Sofie,

Sorry I did not get this email until after hockey on Sunday.  The general answer is, "YES", please come and play hockey.  We have extra equipment for you to use at the pool.  We play Wednesday from 8-10pm and on Sundays from 4-6pm (the first Sunday of every month will be at a different time - to be determined).

It is good if you can give us some notice that you will be coming so we can make sure there is somebody there who is expecting you and who will help you find the best fitting equipment etc.

Rich

Hey Clubpuck.

I just want to iron out the Sunday Funday 1st of the Month Hockey schedule for this Sunday APRIL 7 and then Next Sunday May 5th.

There has always been some slight discussion about hockey times on the first of the month given the bonus hockey!

I just want to make sure a consistent time is set for both of these dates!

Cheers

Casey speaks truth............

I just got word from the pool administrator that our bid to change the first Sunday in every month to 10am until 1pm has been approved.  SOOOOOOOOOOOOO..........  April 7th and May 5th as well as all the first Sundays of the months to follow will be at the new time (10am - 1pm).

Sundays that are NOT the first Sunday of the month will be at our regular 4-6pm time.

Any questions............. ask Casey, he seems to be more on top of the issues than I am.

Goze

OK - business.  Despite popular sentiment hockey is not free.  Start paying up.  The "debtors of delight club" includes Rhett, Miles, and Martin.  Aaron gets honorable mention but he barely missed the $100 cut-off.  Seda, you still have to pay even if you are in Istanbul.  I managed to avoid membership in Debtors of Delight Club because Mrs. Goze still has a job.  So bring me da dough so I can make a deposit and cover all the checks I just wrote to my bookie ......... I mean the pool.

I took a straw poll last night and it looked like there was still a formidable showing for Sunday hockey........ WHICH BY THE WAY......... will start at 10am and go to 1pm.  First hour is drills, next two hours are scrimmage.

We had 6 on 6 last night at LGHS.  Play started before 8:30pm, which I hear is some sort of record given recent start times........... hurray for us............ it's just so great to be us!

Hi Sea Lions, Club Puckers - We will host our 5th annual Children UWH tournament at King pool on May 4. If you have children, have them play. If you like children, come give us a hand! You can come give us a hand even if children are not your passion, just outta your great loving us. We will correspond with more love. If you can be there for a 2h or more slot of time, it will sure help. Thanks in advance!!!

Gus and the SF Children Coaching Team

Hi hockey parents – We have obtained permission to use the King pool for our tournament! It will be in May 4, Saturday, all afternoon. So…(drum up)

The San Francisco Recreation & Park Department and the San Francisco Sea Lions announce the…

5th Children Underwater Hockey Tournament And Clinic.  Saturday May 4 12:00-7:30 pm at the Martin Luther King pool

This event is meant for all children Underwater Hockey player of all levels and ages. It will be mostly from our regular practice attendants, but we expect some visitors from out of town.

We will have a get-together “banquet” celebration afterwards, location to be announced, but probably at the same place as last year (Soo Fong restaurant on 3rd St. and Evans).

The goal is to give the children exposure to competitive level Underwater Hockey. Before we start the games we will do a short clinic on team play and tournament-level rules. For the competition we will setup in water and deck refereeing, sound system and time-keepers. The teams will be composed of the attending children, separated evenly. We expect approximately 25 players to participate, we will separate them into 4 teams, the format will be 6 against 6. They will play a full all-against-all round robin, then they will play semifinals and finals.

Children have always loved this event, they engage a lot with the competition level games and they put a great effort in their play. At the party they are very tired and also loudly happy. Please consider adjusting your schedule to be able to participate. All participants need to arrive and leave in time to play all games.

We will collect money to pay for food and drinks on deck, about $10/player and for pool time (we pay San Francisco for this event), around $15/player. Total $25 for the pool event. Banquet expenses will be split among attendants, it should be around $10/person.

If you know of parents that are not in this list, please forward them this email and tell them to email me so I can put them in the list for next time. We will also distribute paper flyers at the pool.

Thanks for trusting your children to us! It is a non-stop thrill to see how much they have been progressing in their underwater skills and how much enthusiasm they put on their play.

See you all soon at practice, best,

Gustavo

You are correct, warm up at 10 and game starts at 11.

Since we have a full hour to fiddle around before hand, my guess is that our 11 game will actually start at 11.

A number of us showed up early today at 10am and mainly just dicked around until 11am when the scrimmage started.  That's just fine.  It was sunny and warm but not crazy hot.  Matt, Drew and Sara came down from SF.

I thought Casey said he would show.......... well he didn't, but we had 14 anyway.  A good game which ended up about tied but which felt like I got my ass kicked.  We put Drew, Ben and Matt on one team so they could get a chance to play together.......... so not only did they kick my ass but they were smug about it too.  Well, I deserved it......... I was a priest in a previous life.

(Did he actually just write that?)

A 3 person maintenance team was surprised to see us show up for hockey.  They were replacing all the lights in the pool.  It was cool though, we stayed out of their way and played hockey until they were ready to test the lights.  At that point we all had to jump out of the pool.

The workers had brought a small dog from the pound with them.  They were going to test their work by tossing the dog into the pool and seeing if he fried.  Of course we thought this cruel so we threw Ben in instead.  Besides a small tingling in his nether regions Ben seemed to be fine.  (I later found out that Ben's ardour for the sport normally causes tingling in his nether regions, so it was just business as usual.)

A number of people mentioned that they REALLY like the morning game on Sunday..........and  would I consider some more morning Sunday games?  My normal response of "FXXK YOU, leave me alone, don't I do enough for you people already," seemed a tad high handed, so I said I'd diddle another doodle and see what the response was.

Wendy brought Blondies for after hockey treats............... they were de-frickin-licious.

It was $5.00 a car day at LGHS, so even if you think the bottom is slow or whatever, you can't really argue about the price!

And that's how Goze goes,

Goze

Here is the Doodle link I mentioned in my Sunday Wrap.  If you would prefer morning Sunday over afternoon Sunday please respond with a "yes" or whatever the appropriate affirmative Doodle response is.  Let's just get a general feeling  for it now and discuss actual start time later.

If you are a regular and if a morning start time means that you absolutely cannot attend please send the list a note saying so.  If you rarely come to Sunday hockey then don't bother us with your little issues........ oh and you suck too.

And that's how Goze goes again,

Rich,

Another fine summary.  However I feel compelled to add a little commentary from the opposing team.  Yes, Ben's nether regions were tingling on occasion, but I believe the primary cause was the considerable hits he was taking from the opposing team.  Yes Rich, your team.

On the sidelines I repeatedly heard comments about the fact that your arms now seem to extend very close to half way across the court.  Are they performing arm lengthening procedures in China now?  4 weeks did seem like an awful long trip overseas.  Several people were commenting on the horrendous hits you inflicting.  You may have been a priest in a prior life, but I'm sure it was a Jesuit with an attitude.

It was a fine day of hockey and a good time was had by all, but no need to feel sorry for poor old Rich.

And yes the dog from the pound was taken back to a loving home completely unscathed and no worse for wear.

David,

When I discussed this  with Dorothy she had an issue with my wording too.

The question is, "Do you prefer a morning start time?"  If you answer "yes" then the meaning is clear.  If you put your name there, but do not click the box then your answer is "no, I do not prefer a morning start time", the implication would then be that you prefer an afternoon start time.

If you take a look at the Doodle now you will see that Mikey has a pink box by his name, that means his answer is , "no, I do not prefer a morning start time."

If you take a look at the next entry, "test", you will see that it has a green box which signifies, "yes, I do prefer a morning start time".

I fail to see the ambiguity - oh one of whose bottom time I am envious.

Goze

Might change the heading to "click the chck mark if you want to have morning hockey, leave it blank (but save) if you don't want to switch to morning hockey", for those of us who are easily confused.
