I finally regained access to this group!

Hopefully it will be useful to us, and hopefully the water will clear
up.

Hi,i'm new to the area, and looking to meet other divers to get out
and dive the st. clair and lake huron sites. I live in port huron
and would like to hear from anyone looking for dive partners in the
local area. I can be reached at wyldekat68@... either email or
instant messenger or jeffd99@... I am an experienced diver
and have all my own gear including tanks. hope to hear from some
divers! regards,

                                                             Jeff

Mark,
There doesn't seem to be a particular
time of the summer that has better vis than another.
Rain makes it yucky & we've had plenty of little rain
showers in the past couple of summers. Four or five years
ago we had very little rain & commonly had vis to 30'
in the northern parts of the river. A few times we
had 40'+ (!!)

A crude rule of thumb for water
temp in the river is 10 degrees per month. December
thru March, months 1 to 3 = 30 degree water. May (5)=
50 degrees. This works until about July(7)=70
degrees.

In the winter we have had vis up to about 60'. 30 or
40' vis is not uncommon if we have not had a melt in
a week or so. I recently bought a drysuit & love
it, but have made plenty of winter dives in my 1/4"
wetsuit. The trick is to fill up your suit with warm water
from a thermos before jumping in.

Hope to see
you this summer,
Chuck

Hi Mark,
I've only been diving the river for
about 2 years now, so I've never seen visibility much
better than 10' between Marysville and St.Clair. I have
seen viz, over 20 feet while diving the Monarch which
is just below the bridge on the Canadian side, and
also near the bramble which is docked near the Pine
Grove park in Port Huron. Temps from May to July
typically range from a low in the mid to upper 50's and a
high in the upper 60's to low 70's. If you have any
other questions about the river you have come to the
right place. There are several club members who have
been diving the river since there was a river (maybe
not that long but you get the point)and we are always
eager to share information. If your looking for a buddy
drop a message in here and I am sure we can hook you
up.
Mike

I've been diving the St. Clair river off and on
for about 10 years now, usually a couple weeks before
Labor day or after. The last two years visibility has
been somewhat poor at < 6'. It's been 5-6 years
since I've seen 12-15' vis. from Marysville to St.
Clair.

What is month is the visibiliy the best in the summer?
As a non-drysuit diver, what is the typical
temperature in the Months of May -
July.

Thanks,
Mark B.

Our trip was a great success. We had 8 divers & a
total of about 30 people in our group. We had perfect
weather. No clouds, no winds, nice vis. We brough our own
boats do we could dive at our leisure. We dove the
Scoville, King, Niagra, Forest City, and Arabia and also
looked for the wreck of the Nellie Sherwood, whose
location was known some years ago but has apparently been
lost. Non diving days were spent exploring Flowerpot
Island & other area parks.
Many thanks to Leslie,
Barb, Cheryl & Nancy for keeping us all well fed!!
