actually a co-worker told me about a place in tyngsboro, ma.. its one
of the last exits on rt 3 before you hit NH... a big quarry, various
hights, clean water, etc.. no exact location.. anyone got anymore
details?
If you're willing to travel, I know there's one or two near Hartford, as well as a couple not far from Albany (NY). I frequent that one (Canajoharie) and, though the pic is not of me diving on the group's home page, I did just that - dove head first - yesterday, June 23, from the 40 foot falls.
hello, im new to the group and was wondering if anyone had any spots
in southern New Hampshire or Eastern Mass to contribute? I know near
boston therse some sketchy quarries that people die on every year, but
anyone got the hookup anywhere else??
I've jumped from the falls at the Canajoharie Gorge - 40 feet - at
least once during every summer since 1979.
Add 2002 to the count.
Many of our members weren't even born in 1979!
To locate Canajoharie, go to www.airabovewater.com - it's listed
there.
Any advice for feet first landing from 50-60 feet? Toes pointed
down or not? I've dove from around 30 feet but am not
comfortable head first from this height and haven't done much
feet first.
Thanks
David

I don't know if it's entirely close to those cities, but there is a
place in New Mexico that's one of the places included at
www.airabovewater.com.

There was another Yahoo! group created months ago, shortly
after Yahoo! took over eGroups, before we learned that Groups
would overtake Clubs.
That group is located at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cliff_bridgejumpers/
and it has just a dozen members as of this moment.
As all photos were deleted when this club became a group,
neither group has photos. But that group has polls in which I
invite you all to participate. That group doesn't have bookmarks/
links just yet; feel free to add as you like.
I'll keep both groups going for the short term, and I invite those
who plan on uploading pics to do them to both groups. If I delete
one, I'll subscribe all others to the other group so hopefully
nobody will lose out (I'll send out an alert notice first).
All of the original members of the Yahoo! club "Cliff and Bridge
Jumpers" are now members of the new Yahoo! group of the
same name.
I invite all of you to visit the group and post away.
Note that as a part of the group conversion, they deleted all of the
photos, so they'll have to be re-uploaded. I did not save any other
than my own, so those others - if you can locate them, please
feel free to put them up (click on "Photos").
Also, this group is unable to use the "Polls" feature. I wish we
could, but oh well. But, I did create a companion group with a
nearly identical title (CliffBridgeJumpers) which does have a few
members and a couple of polls, but no pics.
I'm going to keep both groups open and see how things go. I
would appreciate feedback, either by a reply post to the group or
by private e-mail.
Also, as of right now, if you had your Club options set to send
you individual e-mail messages, they should have remained as
such. All others are automatically set to receive only "Special
Notices", of which this is one. From within the club, you may
change this option.
I want to get in contact with regular cliff and
bridge jumpers based in the UK. How many of you are
there?
If you are a regular cliff jumper / bridge
jumper (or even bridge swinger) d'wanna email me?
(research@...) or post a msg up for me?

dan_d
There certainly are. Of course, part of expanding
your jumping locations means being willing to do a
little travelling now and then.

I'm hoping to do
just the same; I'm near Albany, NY which means not a
far drive at all to Connecticut. Some places near me
that I've gone to for years are within a few hours of
you. See the photo albums for some examples; I'll be
happy to share directions, etc.

Check our Links
area for some help there also, especially
airabovewater.com.

If you have any photos of yourself and/or any
jumping locations near you, feel free to upload. E-mail
me (wetjeanguy@...) if you need directions.
Hey fellow jumping maniacs! I just signed up with the club in an attempt to
expand my jumping locations and to meet others with this same crazy hobby. Is
there anyone from CT in this club?
Easy! Last year of Uni was spent in the diving pool down the road. Got Degree
and moved back home. No diving pool but lots of sea so had to
improvise.

Tim
me and joe were at HL the day the founder was
here we jump about an hour earlier then the founder
jumped with joe i usauly dive off the girters. jumping
HL makes me feel like an free bird and i love it i
do it about every day and i want to find more places
to go for more fun . well i just joined so see ya
soon

calvin clothier
corinth new yorl
i dove the 60 footer bridge in hadley luzerne new
york it was sweet but ill nver do it again cause i
hurt my neck by not breaking the water right. i am
from c-town corinth new york. take it for a try "its
like your flying like a bird".
joe
suttle
yesterday i had jumped with the founder, hey i joined!!!
I decided to swing by Hadley (some photos of this
bridge are in our albums) tonight even though late in
the day and sure enough there were still guys
jumping. I got there too late to get any decent pics, but
I was walking around in socks (sneakers weren't for
swimming) and I finally talked someone into jumping with me
before leaving.

It was after 8 PM and therefore
very difficult to see the water. I hadn't jumped there
in a couple years, so with all of that I landed
pretty bad - legs bent, felt like someone smacked me
from behind with a 2x4 at full force. But the rush of
that height for the first time in a couple years was
definitely worth it.
Our #1 link from this club, AirAboveWater, has a
feature where they will show a "Jump of the Month" from
the various photos that are sent in.

The
current "Jump of the Month" is a place not far from
Hartford, CT.

Take a look at our links to check it
out!
My fourth visit, and third one where I actually
swam. I jumped - no, make that dove head first - from
the 40 foot falls. It's the same location that's
pictured on the front page and no, that's not me diving
there.

Dive number three wasn't so good. My landing was fine,
but in my usual attempt to have my hands above my
head (with fingers interlocked), I failed to
completely achieve that. On impact into the water, my right
hand somehow smacked hard into the back of my left
hand and I have a sprained left pinky.

I have
difficulty pressing the left shift keys or other
command/control keys over there, tab, A Q Z 1, etc. as I type. I
also can't grab onto anything with that hand, or make
a fist just yet. The pink just doesn't close
completely w/o excruciating
pain. Thankfully, I'm
right-handed.

The friend that went with me told me some of the
positive comments others gave me as I did my dives, which
hardly anyone else does. And of course, I instantly make
friends, or others who had seen me dive previously ask if
I'm going to do it again, which I usually
do.

I'll be back next weekend, as I think the hand will be
fine in a few days.
Go back to my original message. July 4, 2002 is
what I mentioned, which will fall on a Thursday.
That's for anyone who might want to plan or participate
in a cliff-jumping gathering on or about that date
(or anytime for that matter).
I'm more than willing to arrange a gathering of
members of this club who might like to get together at
some place. If it's one of the places near me, I can
of course set that up, and I'd be willing to travel
two states away (from upstate NY).

I don't
know if there's enough time for 2001, but July 4 will
be a Thursday in 2002, which might mean a four-day
weekend for some. That opens possibilities right
there.

Anyone who'd consider doing that sort of thing in the
future, e-mail me jayceefwg@... or feel free to post
here in the club.
If you find anyplace, please let me know also. In
fact, if you find any nice swimming spots, please let
me know. I'm also in northern NJ. To my knowledge,
population density, pollution, and lawsuits/liability have
basically eliminated 'free' swimming in NJ.

Regards
I went to the Canajoharie location, the same one
pictured on the home page for this club. After having been
there for some time, some others finally talked to me
and I decided to go head first (I have no problem
with it at 40 feet). From that point on, everyone was
talking to me; some wanting flips and "gainers", none of
which I can do.

The water was bath warm and it
was just plain great out, 86°F today.

Having
dove head first (I would do that four times), there
are now several people that would like to see me
repeat that next weekend. I'll make every effort to go.
I find it incredibly aggravating when I read
about someone who died while swimming, diving off
rocks, etc. from areas clearly marked "no swimming" yet
the family of the victim wants to sue the city,
county, etc and prevent all access to it. If you want to
jump off a bridge, cliff, or whatever, I think you
should be allowed to, but with the understanding that if
you are hurt or killed, its your own damn fault. I
live near a lake which has total Nazi police
protecting one side from people who want to swim there,
soley for the reason that you might be injured. Its
totally ridiculous. It makes me really mad when fascist
police or policies are put in place to keep stupid
people alive.
I went to the location of the early June fatality
yesterday. I have been sick and/or busy and just plain had
no energy until yesterday. I went not expecting to
swim (and I didn't) as it wasn't quite warm enough for
me, but it's getting there.

There were a few
jumpers there, even with the weather not being picture
perfect. No police presence at all, which was a positive
sign. I don't think they have the ability to patrol it
as they'd like, which is fine with me.

The
last fatality was in 1986, which given how dangerous
the place can potentially be, is remarkable.
