Many years ago, there was an "outlaw" minor league of baseball.
It was called the Federal League. It initially featured six teams,
and one of those six was based in Cleveland.
That ballclub was called, and I'm not making this up, the Clevelabd
Green Sox. That's right, the Cleveland Green Sox.
As I remember, the Green Sox franchise lured the great pitcher Cy
Young from his farm to manage the Lake Erie Nine, which finished the
season in second place on the Federal League ladder.
And get a load of this, the Green Sox were the only team to play
their home games at an amusment park, the legendary Luna Park.
After the 1913 Season, the Federal League went "major", by going to
war with organized baseball, and apparently, the Cleveland Green Sox
were left out of the war.
Perhaps the Tribe was just too strong for the Green Sox!
And so, I was thinking, why don't we honor the Green Sox with
a 'Green Sox Throwback Night' promotion at Jacobs Field, complete
with green uniforms, right down to the - you guessed it - green socks!
If enough of us make this suggestion to Indians management, we could,
and just may, see it happen!
See you at Jacobs Field!
