Jenna's Heart Foundation is organizing a benefit tournament to
fight RETT'S SYNDROME on June 14 & 15 (Sat, Sun) at Elk Grove Village

This is the first badminton tournament being organized by a charity in the
Midwest. Please read about RETT's SYNDROME and all the way below.
You can feel good and have fun while contributing only a few hours
of your time doing what you love - play badminton!
We want a great turnout - and the entries have been a trickle! So we are
extending the deadline for the entry to Monday, June 9. Please mail
your entry asap so that we can plan for prizes, t-shirts etc.
The Elk Grove Pavillion is a great indoor location - with many Kids Play Areas,

Jenna’s Heart Foundation is a non-profit organization that is primarily
dedicated to raise awareness, fund research and find a cure for Retts Syndrome
(RS). Rett syndrome is a neurological disorder, which affects brain development
and is seen almost exclusively in females. A child with RS is usually born
healthy and shows a normal early period of development, until around 6 to 18
months, when there is a slowing down or stagnation of skills. A period of
regression then follows when the girl may lose communication skills and
purposeful use of her hands. Little victims also often suffer from a condition
called apraxia, which restricts motor movements, meaning that these girls often
cannot walk, feed themselves or focus. Estimates predict that one in 15,000
girls will be born with RS. More information on Retts Syndrome and JHF is at:

3. China's Shuttlecock Slump Shows Why Pimco Loves Yuan
"While Deutsche Bank AG and Citigroup Inc. say
pressure is growing on the government to slow the
yuan's advance to help exporters, fund managers
counter that doing so will only cause inflation to
accelerate from February's 11-year high of 8.7
percent. Wuhu Dayi Sports Goods Co., which had
forecast a boom in shuttlecock shipments before
Beijing's Olympic Games open on Aug. 8, said
sales have instead fallen 30 percent this year.
.
.
.
Wuhu Dayi, which supplies shuttlecocks for
badminton tournaments across Asia, expects 10 to
20 manufacturers in its industry will go bankrupt
this year because of the yuan's gains and a
doubling in labor costs in three years, said Zhang
Huizi, a sales manager at the Wuhu, Anhui
province, company. "

1. Watch the Birdie
By Ryan McGee
http://sports.espn.go.com/espnmag/story?id=3384003
For Americans, badminton means grabbing a $19.98 set at Wal-Mart and
swatting a plastic birdie 'til the burgers are done. But for the
Chinese, it's a sport of 200 mph serves and handcrafted goose-feather
shuttlecocks. Badminton is the toughest ticket at the Beijing Games.
Seriously.
"It's going to be rocking," says U.S. captain Howard Bach, a 2004
Olympian and 29-year-old Vietnamese-American who grew up in San
Francisco. "Americans have no idea. Countries have signature cheers,
crowds throw water bottles and trash at you. It's scary. But when you
realize we're talking about badminton, it's pretty cool, too."
Of the 37 U.S. Summer Olympic teams, none operates on a smaller budget
or is on the wrong end of more jokes than badminton. But with respect
to Michael Phelps and LeBron, no American will compete in an arena as
crazed as badminton's 7,500-seat Beijing University of Technology
Gym—a.k.a. the BUT.
"Going to Beijing is going right into the heart of the badminton
world," says team director Dan Cloppas. Since the sport went Olympic
in 1992, China has won a world-leading 26 medals. "When tickets went
on sale, badminton was the first to sell out."
Bach stunned the badminton world when he paired with Tony Gunawan to
win doubles at the 2005 worlds, the first U.S. medal in international
competition. In Beijing, he will likely compete in mixed doubles, with
21-year-old Eva Lee, winner of a trio of golds at the 2007 Pan Am Games.
"The atmosphere will either be a boost for the Chinese team, or the
pressure will wear them down," Bach says. "If we win, there won't be
any parades back home, but believe me, it will be a big deal."

NOTE: This is a fund and awareness raising tournament. ALL proceeds from this

friends - Badminton For a Cause!
Jenna's Heart Foundation is a non-profit organization that is primarily
dedicated to raise awareness, primarily fund research and find a cure for Retts
Syndrome. Rett syndrome is a neurological disorder, which affects brain
development and is seen almost exclusively in females. A child with RS is
usually born healthy and shows a normal early period of development, until
around 6 to 18 months, when there is a slowing down or stagnation of skills. A
period of regression then follows when the girl may lose communication skills
and purposeful use of her hands. Little victims also often suffer from a
condition called apraxia, which restricts motor movements, meaning that these
girls often cannot walk, feed themselves or focus. Girls with RS also often
suffer from seizures, scoliosis and disorganized breathing patterns. Estimates
predict that one in 15,000 girls will be born with RS.

Check your calendar !! The Midwest would like to have as many teams as we can
muster for this great one-time event! If you have interested players, now's the
time to start organizing your team. Each team will need a team
manager/supervisor, a team captain, and a team name like Badminton Beauties, USA
Pacific, Shuttle Smashers, etc. If you are interested in being on a team but
don't know of a team or others who might be on a team, we need to know of your
interest so we can put teams together. Please contact Mary Ann Bowles,

organize teams. Let's go for the gold in October!
