3. BadmintonChicago Volunteers Demonstrate Badminton at Little Village Lawndale
HS, Chicago.
A big thanks to all the Volunteers who demonstrated Badminton and
wowed kids at the Little Village HS during Chicago Park Districts
Spring into Sports program on Saturday afternoon.
Victor Hirano led this effort with help from many volunteers. From what we hear,
the kids - most of whom only play basketball - came away with a new
respect for Badminton. This event was also part of the effort to get the
attention of the IOC.
[Thanks to Tarwin and Victor for the update]
4. Elk Grove Open Gym had an unfortunate scheduling conflict.
EGV Open Gym was supposed to start this Saturday, April 4 - but a scheduling
conflict prevented the Badminton open gym from happening. It turns out that
a Volleyball event was going on today on all three courts. Most badminton
players understood that this was a mistake and that nothing could be done.
Please note that the Park Districts make the schedule available - with a right
to cancel any session at any time. You are always advised to call any Open Gym
organizer or location a few hours before.
Elk Grove Park has apologized for the confusion and offered to not charge anyone
who was inconvenienced today for next Saturday's open play (April 11, 2009,
8:30AM to 12:30AM) - but please call before you go.
EGV introduced badminton 6 years ago in their gyms and the staff there have
been very cooperative with the badminton community. Please continue to help keep
relationships with Park Districts going by being polite and non-confrontational
in such situations. The staff at EGV has always pointed out that the
Badminton players are the most courteous among all the users of the gym.
