Unfortunately, I have some bad news. I appears right now as though we
will no longer be allowed to have our open gym. Our new administration
at the building is concerned with 2 main problems. 1. Technically
speaking anyone that doesn't go to DGN would not be covered by the
schools insurance. 2. The fact that it is Sunday. Due to cut backs,
the district has cut the maintanance on Sundays (not that they helped
us) and they feel they need someone there in case of a building
emergency. As I have spoken several times with our new athletic
director, I feel the bigger issue is the insurance. The school is well
aware of the benefits to our badminton program our open gym has. The
only option would be for me to rent the gym and provide my own insurance
which is not an option. We would need to charge about $15.00 or more
per person per night to cover those costs.

Believe me when I tell you that I am extremely upset about this and have
not given up on finding a way to have it. I am frustrated that we have
spent the last 11 yrs. developing a good program (open gym) that
benefits our students and community and in one decision it takes away
all those years of work. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

I will keep you posted if there are any changes.
