Hello,
I am new to this group. Can anybody tell me anything about wood racket
tournaments? Is there an organization or a place to go to find info on a
movement back to wood?
Thanks,

Hi. Joe I am interested in corresponding with fellow collectors in
Canada. Do you have a list? I have many rackets to trade many were
made in Canada only. Thank you . Steve
HI:
Can you send me some photos of the racquet?
That would help.
Thanks,
Dennis Claus

Hello
I found a racquet in my house but i don`t know anything about it.
I wonder: how old it is, is it rare racquet, whose autograph is
there, does it have any value and everything you know about it. I add
some pictures in "Photos" (in "Schlazenger" folder). I would be very
grateful if you give me any informations. Thank you very much.

Hi:
I would not string a wood racquet that has a broken
string. Just leave the current string, (broken and
all) in. If you put newer string in it would lower the
value of the the racquet.

I have a tennis raquet circa 1930's. The manufacurer is Courtland
Line Co., Inc. There is a "National" decal. It was my Grandfathers
used to play in local tournaments. I would like to display it with
its history, if available. Any information on this raquet would be
great.

Hi Joe. I am a new member. I have an extensive Tad collection and
would like to try them out again. It has been about 7 years since I
have tried one. I will have to dig them out of storage. I am in San
Diego. Bruce
Thanks for the post ! All dont be afraid to state your favorites or
ask uninformed questions, I get them all the time from
www.woodtennis.com and if posted here you could get answers from a
variety of experts. Really been enjoying my woodies, latest favs are
my JK midsize sticks, was playing the wilson jk prostaff & advantages
before those and the borgs before those, bancroft & donnay versions.
Anyone ever hit a turn of the century convex wedge ? I strung a
1900 Writght & Ditson with recent syn gut and gave it a try, pretty
nice, I always like heavy rackets with big grips anyway so was very
comfortable for me. Would have been really neat on grass with white
balls & attire :) Looking forward to hearing all or your stories,
especially nice collector finds and woody play. PS : Just acquired a
flattop Horsman racket.
Cheers, Joe
Hey everyone - talkative bunch that we are. Spring is here and the
outdoor season for northern hemisphere. How about any of you ebay and
racquet collectors talking it up. Joes has been kind to maintain the
perch here. Lets start the pot boilin'. What do people collect????
How many of us actually played (or play) with a wood frame. Anybody
string one recently? They are quite different, shared holes and no
tie offs on the mains. Was Mac the last great wood racket player???
HEY, are you talkin'
Its one of the more valuable autograph/decal
types of rackets, which are popular with many tennis
collectors because Ted Williams was a famous baseball, not
tennis, player. None of these rackets are that valuable
now but you may be able to treat yourself to a good
dinner ;-)<br>Thanks for posting, Joe
Greetings Bart,<br>Thanks so much for your nice
post.<br>I too love the transitional rackets, which started
basically when the makers started laminating the woodies
with fiberglass and graphite, then went to
mid/oversizes and then to different materials like aluminum,
metal and composites : kevlar, ceramic, boron, graphite
and mixes ... Now the trend is to go with ultra light
rackets made with stuff like hyper carbon that are like 9
oz. The old woodies were all over 12 oz. simetime
almost 16. I love the thick old convex wedge wood
racquets that had large handles without grips. Some had
nice carved or cross etches in the handles for wood.
Anyways, sorta got a little off tapic. Thanks for your
post and hope it does help to spur on more surprise
posting from transparent members :-)<br>Best wishes to
all, Joe
Hi Joe,<br>I saw your answer on the message of
Igor which he has send to this Collectorsclub.Between
the lines I saw your challenge and take up the
challenge. I am Bart and I am a (wood)tennis racket
collector for about 4 years.I live in the Netherlands, not
far from the capital Amsterdam. I am 53 years old en
worked allmost 30 years in the Dutch
sportsbusiness(sales). My purpose is to collect wooden frames and
rackets, the first metal and the glassfiber rackets. On
this moment I have over more than 500 rackets. Most of
course Dutch, but also from Germany, Belgium and France.
My oldest racket is a Slazenger (S&L)1886 I'am
trying to get a archive of wooden tennisrackets, a
hopeless task of course, but let me dreaming. I am
collecting tennisballcans and tennisbooks to.In your answer
to Igor you mentioned that more collectors will tell
something on this platform. My suggestion is the following,
The first collector on the list ( Allenrlevin) is
starting the carrousel and gives a little story from his
hands end asked the second one (Avocat50) to go further
on. At the end all collectors are known by the others
en I am sure that from time more collectors will be
on this platform. If someone has questions to this
side of the ocean do not hesitate to write it
down.<br><br>Sorry for my English.<br><br>Best regards of the wooden
shoes country.<br><br>bart
Lyndamenth is asking for information of Pinguin tennis rackets. This was a Dutch
sportsmanufacturer and I worked for them in the past. Please give the questions
and I will try to answer them.<br>Bart
Welcome Igor, Glad you found this club I founded.
Excellent post and introduction. Wish more members would
introduce themselves like you did but suspect only a few
have the kind of rackets that are in your collection
:-) Best wishes, Joe
Hi, I am from Basque Country (Spain) and my
english is not very good...<br>For your knowledge I am a
youg collector (36). I was tennis player (90th in
spain) and also I'm technical director of the basque
tennis Federation. I'm journalist and my main job is as
Comunication Director of the Bizkaia's Patronal (Enterprises
owners association). I writte some articles about tennis
(technical, Davis Cup,...) for spanish newspapers and
magazines aswell.<br>My collection is not very big but I
have some rackets from 1890's, 1910's, 1920's,
30's,...until 1980. slazenger Demon, Prossers, Forrester and
Sons, Wilson, Spalding, Slazenger (pm
Maskel-Perry),....<br>I have Kuebler's and Cherrys books and I'm very
happy for been member of your club .<br>I am also
member of the Gerald Gurneys Collectors
Society...<br>Regards to eveyone<br>Igor
Welcome Ken, What are your favorite types of
rackets to collect ? Seems to be a split in this club
with recent woodie vintage rackets that players still
hit with and collectors who just like to hangup the
old classics. I fit in both categories as I have
played most of the recent player type rackets and love
admiring the really antique rackets like the flat & tilt
tops from the late 1880s to 1900s. Looking forward to
some new posts, its been sorta quiet lately.<br>Best
wishes, Joe
I am a new member of the collectors club. Have
been collecting vintag rackets for a number of years.
My collection has grown to 98 rackets. Some 80+
years old. Look forward to chating with other
collectors.<br>Regards,<br>Ken Roush
Hello - I saw your response to the vintage tennis
racket question and thought maybe you could shed some
light on a racket set I have. Any info at all would be
appreciated; I'm really curious. It's a Spalding Poncho
Gonzalez Pro Champ Tennis Set, with racket, balls, and a
red-white-and-blue cloth of some kind (maybe a pouch for the
racket). I can't tell because it's never been opened.
Spalding couldn't or wouldn't tell me how old it was. I'm
of course curious about value but mostly about age.
<br><br>Thanks, Russ
