Re: [classicpugilism] Re: In fighting skills 1800s

Hi Brandon ,
Sounds like you have a good sparring partner.
Take a look again at the pictures i posted in particular the placements of
the arms in conjunction with the back heel. The arms and hands can be used
as actual strikes as your entering eg the out side forearm serves to
guard blows that the opponent may be throwing over the top (provided you
keep your chin tucked in) and jolt into the throat , the inside of the
forearm and bicep can strike and cloths line the opponent , and some later
pugilists used the heeling of the palm up under the chin.

If the initial strike falls to produce an effect it can be doubled up on the
same line or mixed into another strike depending on positioning .

Tradionaly these positions of the arms at 'in fighting' might not have
been intended for this type of use ,but i find they are effective for
softening up the opponent and hopefully clearing the way for a successful
back heel .

How are people using the back heel as a take down - twisting the opponent
around and into the ground or other ?

I hope Terry Brown might get involved with this post as i believe he trains
in the area of self defense .

Thanks ,

Craig .
