This may have been posted before, but I've located an interesting
brand of training gloves. It appears to approximate the size and
blocking capabilities of a bare fist (no large puffy surfaces to
"catch" or block punches with), but provides MUCH more protection for
the sparring partner than bare fists do.

(It is claimed that they're designed with as much force distribution
as a 16 oz. boxing glove--and presumably would cause less damage
because of less mass behind the strikes).

Another brand is to be found here:

Also, I wondered what sort of headgear you guys have found to be most
useful. Thanks!

Gloves of this kind (mma style) seem to be the glove of choice for most who
are working on bareknuckle styles. A few of the guys here have them and they
seem pretty happy with them. I have a pair I ordered about a million years ago
floating around in the lost package limbo...so for some reason I am holding out
hope that they arrive before I try to order another pair.

Headgear.....alot of this will come down to personal preference. Somge guys like the san shou style witht he thick cage....they sit funny on my making it real hard to see. I bought the kind witht he clear bubble front and have a helluva time keeping it from fogging or catching glare formt he lights...Tim R. had some nice ones in Lansing that seem to be a nice comprimise of the two styles we have here.

Of course I would rather just not use any headgear since I often find that I slip a punch by an inch or two when not wearing them but get hit alot more when I am....that said, Iam not nuts enough to take too many punches to the head unprotected.

Ken
