A few body punches were being developed as I recall around that time. John L
Sullivan made the change from bare knuckle to gloves. Does anyone recall around
when that was and was Kid McCoy using gloves?

Kid McCoy was one of the first Welter weights, I believe. I'll have to
check. He fought around the middle of the 19th century. He was such a
great proponent of the body KO, that one person descibed the corkscrew
that KO'd him as having a train knock the wind out of his lungs. This
story is what leads me to believe the corkscrew is a straight to the
solar plexus. The only info Kid gave about the punch was that it
depended on timing the punch to them breathing in. This would be when
the abdominal muscles are the most relaxed.
