Hi Chuck,
You are finding out what many of us have found in the past....for the
most part if I am in a very inclined position with a good amount of
distance...I can use the elbow up blocks and even follow up with the
backfist with good effect but once we start getting close, I
definitely keep my elbows down most of the time...it all depends on
where we are in relation to each other and what is going on.
The way I look at it, especially with boxing, not everything works for
everyone and against everybody. We all tend to find our own way of
doing things.
Stu, thanks for mentioning your experience with the old Russian
fisticuffs rolling elbow block, I just saw that on a vid clip I had
for a while and have been wanting to give that a go and see how it
feels. I'll give it a try next time we get together to punch each
other in the heads.
