The Sonoma State University Fencing Certificate class will be starting this
Saturday at SSU in the dance room (PE 1) from 10am-1PM. It will go most
Saturdays until the first Saturday in December. There is a 2 unit option and a
much cheaper 1 unit option. Here are the details:

Fencing is one of the oldest physical training disciplines. Practitioners
develop an exceptionally high level of mental and physical acuity in tactical
skills and rapid reflex responses. This course of study introduces the
historical roots of modern fencing and an in-depth analysis of the traditional
Italian school of fencing as well as bouting practice and preparation for
competitions. The program is intended for fencers of any level past beginner,
who either want to further develop their skills or want to work to earn
credentials that qualify them to coach and teach fencing. The knowledge and
skills students gain by taking the course include:


Mastery of fencing theory
Practice in the Italian fencing tradition
Familiarity with the history of fencing
Familiarity with alternative fencing venues such as theatric and historical
fencing.
Each day includes a theory and practice component. Required texts are available
at the SSU Bookstore. This course can be repeated for credit. For detailed
