derivations - Sixte and Septime   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #8037 of 8166 |
Hello escrimologists!

I have been researching the derivations of fencing terms for some
time, and I am looking for the first use of Sixte and Septime. The OED
cites the first use in English in the 1880's, and then use seems
widespread shortly afterwards in sport fencing.

So I am looking for a source earlier than 1880 of the use of Sixte or
Septime as fencing terms. Any sources?

Yours Swordfully,

TIm Klotz
