A two day seminar focusing on the practical application of Italian
fencing theory. Italian fencing of the late 19th and early 20th
centuries did not distinguish between use of the foil (a training
tool for the sala darmi) and the dueling sword, or spada da
terreno. Luigi Barbasetti, a celebrated Italian master of the 19th
and 20th centuries, noted "the Italian method does not recognize any
difference between fencing and fighting with the sword...
This seminar is directly useful to classical fencers, students of
smallsword, and rapier fencers. The control of tempo and measure,
and the techniques used to manipulate them, were substantially the
same in 1885 as they were in 1606.
