I think you should have dealt sooner with the subversive threats from John
Pate, Alan Boys, Andrew Firmin & Jo Wotsit and who were obviously communist,
Jewish, black, homosexuals, lesbians, female, gypsies, trade unionists,
Jehovah Witnesses and/or Deitrich Bonhoeffer (surely "bent on taking over
the group for their own self-aggrandisement?" - Ed)

Oh, you lot, get off my group. I still run this and can ban any of you at
any moment, without reason or warning. Not that this is is a warning, or a
reason for that matter.

I know how Hitler felt in his bunker. 5 years of world domination, then you
just want a quiet time whilst it crumbles around you, but no, loads of
people keep turning up to spoil the party.

Excellent, Michael, a good starting point for the revival of the original
and best claret debating group.

So, er... without doing any research at all, I have this kind of gut
feeling, or reliable intellectual intuition, that the director responsible
for the new stands (Clive Wotsit) had this project dumped on him and that he
had no knowledge about stands (etc) and that he just got the standard amount
of government grant for erecting the standard bunch of seats with a roof,
designed by th e only available architect/engineer/contractor (all of which
is price fixed and decided in advance). The spec (view, sound etc) is
standard as well and usually it's the most number of seats for the least
cost anyway. The spectacular view of the moors and the interesting sun in
the eyes (/sunset) was an accidental bonus.

More to the point is Barry's choice of manager. How he could choose Steve
Cotterill, virtually inarticulate and unproven as a manager and as a player
against Brian Flynn all the opposite (articular, proven as a manager and a
player) is beyond belief. And if you want to bring in the complete
absence of money to excuse Mr Cotterill's abysmal performance then such
absence was known in advance and Brian Flynn has the best results ever for
no money (not to mention his contacts). Inarticulate? I heard his interview
today on Radio Lancs and what he said was virtually meaningless (in both
language and football terms).

So replace Cotterill with Flynn and re the acoustics I suggest hanging
millions of milk bottle tops from the roof of the stands to funnel the
sound and also make the crowd look bigger (albeit a bit upside down and
fragmented). Milk bottle tops? OK, something similar.

I didn't realise but having looked at the Clarets Mad website, it seems its
10 years since they demolished the Longside.

What a tremendous decision that was. We lost a great atmosphere and gained
two white elephants - one of them still isn't finished for gawds sake, we've
spent 10 years trying to pay off the debt (and now we don't even own them),
they were designed by someone who had clearly never been to a football match
given the way that what little atmosphere is generated is funnelled up and
out of the ground. You get wet if it rains and you're in the "covered"
lower tier. Prices have trebled and I now get fined for turning up to watch
on the day.

They should demolish the Cricket Field stand and replace it with terracing.
Give the Longside to the away fans where we won't hear them if they make any
noise.

Mick

Give the Longside to the away fans where we won't hear them if they make any
noise.

Good to see that while, as you point out, most things online change, you
haven't.

Too much amber nectar Eddie. This group stopped 5 years ago when John moved
everyone to his new group burnleyfc. And the Burnleyfc group stopped 2 years
ago when John moved everyone to his new group Claretnblue.

But as several(hundred)people have pointed out the real action is on the
claretsmad message board where there are several thousand members and approx
several thousand messages per minute. All things must pass of course. My
(new)theory on the fall of all web social things is that as soon as people
get to know each other then such divisive things as social class/status,
education, age etc kick in. In fact even recently status was discussed in
depth and everyone started revealing their age (as well). All the nutters
are strictly controlled by the Tony the Grouch who recently suspended the
registration of new members and will probably suspend me after reading this.
Although perhaps to avert this I should say that I think his contribution to
all things Burnley, his articles, match reports etc are second to none.

Statistically all egroups (like all social groups) can be shown to be in
permanent decline. A 12 month moving average on Claretnblue shows an annual
decline from 160 in Sep04 to 125 in Sep04 so unless John starts another
group Claretnblue will last exactly 3 more years (see attached graph)

This concept is now taking off. If anybody reading this has a site
related to the Clarets who would like to be considered for inclusion
in the'Family' please contact me and we will consider your application

All we ask is you put the following wording on your main page in
whatever font size you want

'Your Site Name'...Part of the Family of Clarets

You must also be willing to put up the links of the other sites in the
'Family' separate from other Clarets Board Links as advised by myself

Many thanks for your attention

Please note there are now some additions and minor changes as follows:

The Family of Clarets

The 'Family of Clarets' concept is to promote each other's
sites, forums and chatclubs and try and ensure our individual
memberships are aware of the other clubs within the 'Family'. It is
hoped we will then have the same membership on each site all of which
have something different to offer. From time to time,we might have
some friendly rivalry across the sites eg messageboard quizes and
challenges so come and join the fun!

The Longside: http://www.thelongside.co.uk

A great messageboard with increasing activity all the time.
Find all the latest news and features here.

Burnley Banter: http://uk.msnusers.com/BurnleyBanter

This is TMP's chatclub with a small messageboard. With lots of photos
of both town & club, past & present and you can upload your own. We
have regular organised chats about the Clarets during non-match days
and in close season

Sexy Clarets: http://uk.msnusers.com/SexyClarets

A great chatclub for those that cant attend matches, listen on match
days to ClaretsWorld radio and chat about the game in the chatclub.
Very busy during games.

Clarets.net: http://www.yabbers.com/phpbb/index.php?mforum=mykeane

Another great messageboard to keep abreast of rumours and all things
Clarets!

TM Longsiders: http://www.turfmoorlongsiders.com/

Great little place for those of you that like some singing on the
Longside and how to make it better. Join the Turf Moor Longsiders or
Ultras at our games.
Visit this site and look at their forum.

Up the Clarets.com: http://www.uptheclarets.com/

This is Al's place and an excellent site for Clarets photographs and
memorabilia. He also keeps us all up to date on the lastest club
gossip & rumours.

Lots of other features too!

Martin's Forum: http://forums.cjb.net/martinmjt.html

Its a place for you to have a good chat with Clarets and to have some
fun but its more besides where all sorts of stuff can be debated

Please join ALL these clubs and sites, they all have something
different to offer and if you join these you will feel part of 'The
Family of Clarets'

In conjunction with Clarets Mad we are running a Fantasy League this season
entitled Fantasy Mad. It is the brainchild of Daz Arnone, a member of both
the Trust and West Midlands Clarets.

The cost of joining the league is £10 per entry, half of which will go to
the Trust and half in prize money to the top placed teams at the end of the
season as well as Manager of the Month awards from September to April.

There are three easy steps to join the league, you will need to register for
our league, register your team in the game and then use one of three methods
to pay us.

Visit www.darnone.co.uk <http://www.darnone.co.uk/> to register for our
league. You need to fill in the larger right hand box and specify by which
of the three methods you wish to pay. On subsequent visits you can enter
your email address twice in the left hand box to check the status of your
registration.

You will then need to register a team in the Fantasy League game itself run
via the Premier League’s official web site which is at
http://fantasy.premierleague.com <http://fantasy.premierleague.com/> and
once we have received your payment you will be sent a code to allow you to
register that team in the Fantasy Mad League.

You can pay by cheque, online banking or via Paypal although there will be
an extra 50p charge for using Paypal.

By cheque: Please make your cheque payable to Clarets Trust and send it to
the Trust address which is PO Box 1960, Sports Desk, Burnley Express, Bull
Street, Burnley, BB11 1DP.

By online banking. Please forward your payment to the Trust account which
is: Sort Code: 20-15-70 and Account Number: 60365610.

By Paypal: Follow the link when you register.

Subject: [clarets] Trust Survey Update

Thanks very much to those of you who are not Clarets Trust members who
replied to our one question survey last week but could I please ask those
who didn’t if they would consider spending just a few seconds in replying to
us, it would be so helpful for the Trust and our support of the Club.

The question is: Having not joined Clarets Trust would you please choose one
of the options below that best describes why not.

1. Have not heard of it
2. Have heard of it but not sure what it is
3. Have heard of it but not got round to joining yet
4. Have heard of it and think I know what it is about but don't agree with
it
5. Cannot afford it
6. Don't think it will make a difference
7. Other (please specify)

Could you please email your answer to info@...

To date most of the replies have suggested 3 and 5.

3. If you do wish to join, membership forms can be downloaded from the Trust
website at www.claretstrust.co.uk <http://www.claretstrust.co.uk/> and are
also available at the Burnley Express and at the club’s ticket office – you
will also be able to join at the meeting directly after the Leeds game in
the Foundation Bar. The meeting will start around 2:30 and both members and
non-members will be very welcome.

5. Membership costs £10 adults, £7.50 over 60s and £5 under 16s.

Again thanks very much for your time

Speak up, Clarets - you will be heard!

You are a Claret. Only a supporter, you might say. You pay your money every
week and give your support but what do you get in return? Should you expect
anything except a game of football? Do you feel the club should be more
accountable to its supporters? Does a particular issue make you angry?

Well now is your chance to have a say and make your voice heard as the
Clarets Trust will be holding an Open Meeting in the Foundation bar on
Saturday 5th February after the home game against Leeds United.

The bar will be open and the meeting is open to non-members as well as
members. It will give supporters the chance to put forward their views on
the football club and help to decide Trust policy on issues as varied as
ticket refunds, season tickets and the recent ground sale and leaseback for
example.

The Trust steering group will give an update on progress so far and put
forward plans for the coming year. How are we going to raise money and what
are we going to do with it? Will we invest in the youth scheme? Will we try
to buy the ground back? As a truly democratic organisation, the membership
will decide.

Supporters' Trusts up and down the country are making a difference to their
clubs. Exeter City is run by their supporters' trust and they held the
corporate might of Manchester United to a draw. Yet strangely enough,
Shareholders United, the Manchester United Trust could eventually end up
running their club as they already have approaching 20% of the shareholding.

So come along and have your say and if enough people feel the same way then
by joining together perhaps Burnley supporters can make a difference at our
club. The chairman, board and playing staff at Burnley are doing their very
best for the club so isn't it time the supporters made a more positive
contribution?
